meditation is good. its a big subject but the point is to learn how to look at yourself objectively, from a point of view other than your own. when you can do that, you see how unnecessary the stress is. there are many good books on meditation, which tell you ways to physically relax, and ways to alter your point of view

Start looking for a new job. Even if you only get as far as looking at the paper and job postings online it will probably help you relax. Once you start to look at your other options and see that you are not truly stuck in this job for the rest of your life things should start to look a little better.
I hated my job, I couldn't stand my boss or my coworkers, and I felt like the "red-headed step child" of my department. I cried myself to sleep on Sunday nights because I had to go to work in the morning... it was awful.
So I began the job search. It wasn't stressful, because I HAD a job. I wasn't searching for the way to pay next month's rent; I was searching for a better future. If I browsed the job postings and nothing looked good that day I would move on. Every few days I would come across something and think "Hey! That looks like a good one for me." Sometimes I wasn't qualified, so I would make a mental note to pursue certain things in my life so in a few years I would be able to do that type of work if I'm still interested.
One day I came across something that sounded perfect for me. It was a similar field to the work I was doing, so I spoke to my manager about adjusting my job duties to be more in line with what I was interested in - using the job description I had found online as an example. The manager was unable to help me, so I applied for the perfect job I found. I was happier immediately - I was doing something, I was in control of my life.
I got the job I applied for; which is a great ending to this story, but the searching and applying really helped me to overcome the work depression.

Drugs and alcohol. Seriously, if your at a point where you need a change you need to make it change or the changes will be made for you. When I was struggling with a change i needed to make but did not have the courage to jump, I was pushed not knowing where I would land. I read a good book that may help you too, "Who Moved My Cheese". If you need to make some financial changes than do so, same with education. Sounds like it's time. Jump in the direction you want to go so you don't get pushed and fall into a unhappier situation/career. Believe in yourself. P.S. Don't try and live with a problem, solve/change it instead of trying to cover the symptoms.

Most people don't like their jobs--you're not alone.
Taking periodic brfeaks throughout the day to go outside and breathe fresh air and NOT think about work helps a great deal. But, it's putting a bandaid on a gaping wound.
Look for another job while you still have one. check out what skills you have, what jobs you can do, and apply for another job in another company.
Alternately, become "your own boss" by starting your own business. Assess your skills and knowledge, talk with the Small Business Administration (www.sba.gov) and Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE: www.score.org) for ideas and advice. Start your business on the side while you still have a job, and when you are ready, make the jump to work your business full time.
Simply working on something else to better your financial life will make your current job bearable because you'll have something great to look forward to in the near future.
Also, work with a coach/mentor (check out www.empoweredyou.com). They are selfless people who are there to help you change your life in positive ways. They are invaluable to your success.
Have fun and enjoy the process you're about to embark on!
