YES they have.!!!!!!!!!

Retard is harsh don't you think? I mean phrasing it the way you did.

My grandson was born with Down Syndrome, aka Trisomy 21.
Which means he was born with a third 21st Chromosome.
He is very smart, yet lacks in motor skills. It just takes him longer to do things. He learns just the same, but at a slower pace. Do I expect him to excel academically. Yes & No.
I suspect he will go at his own pace. He likes looking at books and already recognizes words. Just by sight. He does not read yet, he just remembers the word(s) from memory.
He will be 3 in June. Is he a retard, NOT to me. Does he have a learning disability, YES.

It is sad because most people have low expectations for people with learning disablities, so they get pushed aside. Good thing is, there are people out there that do have great expectations and the person with the disablity gets a chance at least.

You need to be quite careful here. There are many mentally challenged people who get scholarships to colleges. They may not be able to partake in the classes, but they are able to study the arts. Some people who are considered "retarded" are actually extremely talented in the arts. Next time you ask a question, you might want to do research so you don't look like an idiot. Thank you.

Mental retardation has nothing to do with the ability to go to college. Retardation isn't related to the level of education you've had. In that case, most of my town would be considered mentally retarded since they never finished high school due to farming.

If a school did not have much of an acceptance policy, it's possible. The person would have to go to special classes, and s/he would actually be disabled by law and have to have tutors at his/her request.

I've been to 7 colleges in my life, and I've never known anyone who was mentally challenged to be in college. I've known those will low IQs, but actually mentally challenged? No. Could it happen? Sure!

This question is over simplifying the concept of
"retardation".

Doctors usually are more specific about what the
problem is, such as a learning disability, cognitive
impairment over particular subjects, actions, emotions
etc.

Yes, many people with learning disabilities or
other brain related issues have gone to college
and on to greater glory.

Calling someone a "retard" is usually mean spirited
and always overly general.

I went to 6th form with a girl who had the mental age of a 10 year old (Although it seemed alot younger), she was taking a health and social care course.. I was so suprised she stayed there though.. She was quite badly bullied because of the way she acted and the things she did and said but she didn't seem to care, or maybe she just didn't understand.
