Birch and willow trees love boggy ground and will help absorb water. Ferns of all kinds will thrive there, as well as iris and daffodil bulbs and all will come back year after year. Blueberries would do well also.

You can also dig a trench and submerge perforated drain pipe in a gravel bed below the soil to help drain some areas.

Of course, this all depends on your climate zone and soil type (sandy, loamy or lots of clay.) Look for plants that grow naturally in wetlands areas of your part of the country.

If it's reliably wet all the time, how about some nice cattails and those fun squiggly grasses?

If it's wet most of the time but not the whole summer, you could try a weeping willow, or different pretty sedges. (Make sure you get one that's not considered invasive for your area) Or how about a yellow flag lily. But not yellow flag iris because they really are a pest. And don't be tempted by purple loosestrife or you'll be the terror of the neighborhood!

Hosta or Funkia is a shade lover that doesn't mind wet feet.
Bamboo will live through anything

You can also try adding more soil with organic matter to the wet spots to build it up so that plants are not sitting in water.

Its your oil ( Clay-ish or sand) that isn't absorbing the water.

Add wee-moistened peat moss and Sphagnum moss to to soil to add water absorbing material.

Weeping Willow trees are awsome. Of course they will grow large if that is a problem, but each will soak up lots of water.

A key is consider plants that do well near wetlands, creeksides, etc.
