It depends on what the school policy involving cellphones is . If the school prohibits use of cellphones at anytime during the school day then you are kind of out of luck.... its like opening your door to the police then getting upset when they find something illegal in your home..... next time erase all your texts after you read or send them!
also don't use your phone at school if it isnt permitted!
you are at school to learn not be a social butterfly!!!

I dunno, because kids DO have some reduced reasonable expecatations of privacy in school buildings (such as in their lockers or in non school property, notebooks, etc.) I'm assuming that he didn't have any cause to look at your texts (like he believed you were sending harassing messages, etc.) This would be an interesting case, but probably not something you'd want to pursue, because it would be much more of a hassle than it would be worth. If this is a repeated problem, then additional action (like confronting the principal, or talking to the superintendent or a board member, or getting counsel) shoudl be considered.

Do you have any non biased witnesses to what happened? If not, It will be your word as a kid who got busted for breaking the rules and using a cell phone and got it taken away, VS a Principle who is too busy to be concerned with a students ramblings.

You are a minor. This means that the adults responsible for you are the ones who determine what your 'rights' are.
Next time try following the rules and you wouldn't have this sort of problem.

someones paranoid, he was probably just looking at the phone so he would remember which one was yours at the end of the day. I doubt he was reading your texts and I dont think you could prove it even if he was

I think that you are just
assuming that's what
you saw, because you
are worried about the
stuff you have on there.
So what if he reads it.
Did you kill someone??
Grow up you are not as
important as you think.

I'm not sure about anything, really, but I wanted to tell you that you should care, and it is important. Don't listen to some of your commentors. I would be very pissed off.
