You can, but it going to take a lot of work and time. Since you are not allowed to use the chemicals termite companies use, because they are regulated by the FDA. When you realize how much, its cheaper to pay the termite company, and use a good one it makes a lot of difference who you use, there are some really crooked companies out there.

Certainly you can rid of those things. They dont live in house they simply come there to feast. They live in the soil surrounding the house and outside at that.

Little know and little publicized method costs less than $20 to rid of the termites. Take a spade and work the ground away from the house around the entire perimeter. Kind of a groove void 6 inch deep . Then fill that void you made with ordinary rock salt. Then water thoroughly. Gone will be the termites. They swell up from salt and die off. Add more rock salt at regular intervals to keep your house free of the varmits even in warm climates this works.

This is not publicized because there is NO MONEY IN IT for the exterminator and it is too simple a thing to do.

This is a 100% effective and safe way to rid of them.

Yes. But it couldn't possibly be covered in this short space. Obviously it is best to hire a competent professional.

If you truly can't afford one, and want to at least slow them down until you can have it properly serviced, go to the library. The Department of Agriculture has some great detailed publications on what chemicals residents can use and how to apply them safely.

If you have an active infestation in your house (tubes coming up into your foundation, coming up thru the plumbing, etc.) then you'll want someone to give you a spot treatment to kill off the existing pests. The problem you'll run into is guys who will want to sell you a "contract" for a bait system with monitoring, etc. While the method itself is effective, the results with individual companies are mixed and they can be a small fortune. If you're thinking of going with the bait system, you might try and find a "do-it-yourself-pest-control" store (there's one here in my hometown) that sells a complete system with bait and poison (about 500 bucks for a 25 station system). The key to any bait system is regular monitoring and applying the poison when the bait gets hit.

There are websites that sell stuff to kill termites. Termites live underground much of their lives so I think you inject it underground into their colonies among other places. I think you can see little trails above ground where they have been active. Termites like moist dirt so fix any plumbing leaks if that is applicable.

It's not worth it to try to get rid of them yourself. Hire a professional if you don't want your home destroyed.
