Welcome to the world of guitars.
First... there is no one... "best guitar" for beginners. The best one, is the one that you buy. Just starting out I would recommend a less expensive one, because you are not experienced enough to really know what you like that is going to be a lifetime purchase. You will notice a difference between the different price levels.
My recommendation would be take someone who already plays and get their opinion on your selection. I would recommend your local stores to try and see what they have to offer. I like patronizing local stores, because you get to try before you buy. Plus if you have any issues, they are there to help you.
Just be careful of going online and ordering the same model. There can be variations in action and feel from different guitars of the same model. Plus if you go onto ebay, watch out for the shipping charges. I have an electric that was actually cheaper buying a new one at the store with taxes and everything than it was to buy a used one on ebay with shipping.
Action is the height of the strings off of the fingerboard of the neck. The higher the action, the harder it is to play. Sometimes if the action is too low, you will get buzzing when pressing the strings down and strumming.
Find one that feels comfortable to you. After a while, when you have been experienced, you will get the bug to buy a better guitar. You can never have too many guitars.
You can get some of the packages that are out there which are great deals.
Just have fun and you will be fine with whatever you get.

It depends on whether you would like an accoustic or an electric. I'm not too familiar with accoustic guitars, but if you're looking at electrics Fender makes a line called the Fender Squires which are good guitars for about $200-300.

The best one is the one that just feels right. Don't get an expensive one and don't get a super cheap one. Try out a few and pick one that feels comfortable. I would stay away from the Fender Squier - it's a piece of crap. Check out a Jackson or Ibanez. They make some decent, cheaper guitars.

Either one with the letters on it or I got a "Squier Bullet" electric and ordered this package called "Simply Guitar" which is very cheep.

Make sure you try out lots at your local guitar shop.
Once you found one you like, look on the internet and there will always be a deal a lot less than the shop.

I got everything for $65.

I'm learning fast.

already know "sweet home Alabama"

PS: Reason I told you this is because my piano/guitar teacher said this was a great starter guitar for me.

I would go with an Alvarez RD-10 or go with a classical guitar. Make sure that the strings don't ride to high off the fret board

I believe there is something called First Act guittars or something that sounds like that. It is not an electric guittar, but it is very good and good quality for beginner guittar players. It is also not very expensive, and you can get it at most music stores, Wal-Mart, or Toys R Us (although it is not really a toy, it is a real guittar).

Good luck with learning the guittar!

If you're just starting out, go with a no-name brand of guitar.
