Not sarcastically as in you`re a clever dick, or that was a clever thing to do (not!). I prefer intelligent to the proper meaning of clever.

No, when ever someone uses the word 'clever' it makes me think they are saying it with sarcasm and they could be a serial killer.

I think I've watched too many thrillers where the villain says something like 'clever girl' then slashes her!

if they are calling me clever then they have discovered whatever it was I was trying to be clever about and that just means that I was less clever than I originally thought.
