It means that you can use wireless connections - routers and public hotspots without any additional adapters (you already have it in your computer). Most newer laptops have it built in. 802.11g is just the network protocol standard, you won't see any other ones. I don't know why they even put it there...

The 54g is the speed, it's 54Mbps transfer rate (wired standard is 100Mbps) and the G is just the name for that frequency/speed range (11Mbps is B and 300Mbps is N).

It means that the laptop has a built in wireless card that operates up to 54Megabits per second and on the G band. Wireless is broken down into four classes or bands each with their own frequency range, Class A operates at the 5 Gigahertz range, Class B and G both operate at the 2.4 Gigahertz range and Class N operates at the 2.4 or 5 Gigahertz range. 802.11 is the classification assigned to wireless networking through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or IEEE.

It means the computer you are interested in have a built in wireless network card. The earliest wireless cards were 802.11a, the name given to it by the computer industry. They decided to keep the name for future versions of wireless cards. The second generation is called 802.11b, the third generation is called 802.11g and the next generation is called 802.11n. Each generation of network cards support faster and faster connection speed. 802.11b maximum connection speed is 11 Mbps (mega bits per second) while 802.11g is 54Mbps. In your case, the computer come with a built in a 802.11g wireless network card. Currently, 802.11g is the most widely used wireless standard. Most 802.11g wireless card can support the older 802.11b wireless standard. However, they can not support the newer and faster 802.11n wireless standard. 54Mpbs is very fast and suits most Internet users' needs. The faster 802.11n is more suited for those who want to download high definition videos from the Internet.
