I have a 1.86 GHz 6300 Intel Core 2 CPU with 2 GB RAM and integrated graphics card. Which would be the better investment to run VISTA, adding 2 more GB RAM or a dedicated graphics card ($100-$200 price range)? I have a PCIx16 slot available.

Dedicated graphics card. Since you already have 2GB or RAM a dedicated graphics card will improve your performance and will enable Windows Aero. Don't take my word for it, VISTA ranks your components, so you should upgrade your lowest ranked component.

A graphics card! 2 GB of RAM is perfect for Vista & honestly, any more than 3 GB is a waste. Vista is a graphics intense OS and works much better with a decent graphics card. With a nice graphics card, you'll be using less system memory anyways so it's a win-win situation. I use Vista with 2 GB of RAM and when I added a new video card, it ran so much better...trust me.

2 GB of RAM is plenty. I would go with the dedicated graphics card. Onboard graphic cards aren't the greatest. Try to get a card with at least 512 MB of ram, you'll notice much improvement in performance.

Your onboard graphics card is probably using shared memory, so its taking away from your 2 gigs. Chances are unless you got the machine in the past 6 months it also doesn't have the power to use Aero so you are defaulting back to the XP style graphics.
Get a separate card with at least 512 megs onboard ram, you'll notice a difference in its display almost instantaneously.
Ram you can always add later on if you think you need it.

actually the first answer is wrong, Vista's new 'aero' window-effects only work on pretty-much-brand-new video cards. so your integrated video card will have zero chance of taking advantage of 40% of what you paid for in Vista.

2GB of ram is plenty for Vista, 4 would be overkill IMHO.

so go with a (supported by vista) video card, for sure.

I'd say do both More memory is great and a dedicated graphics card would make your machine sweet.
