Wow, what a cute idea for a contest! He's a lucky dad and hubby to have 4 ladies who want to kidnap him and decorate him with love. :D
I was thinking along similar lines as hiphopper.......but....
If it was my guy, I'd get matching sweatsas an underlayer and instead of reflecting his job "out side" the home....I would decorate him in the ways his GIRLS see him as super dad (too).
ie: super story reader(attach a flimsy book), garbage taker outer(attach a peice of crumpled up foil), super hugger (stuffed teady bear on a shoulder) etc....
OR
just take pics of all these different things (him doing them or just general magazine or internet pics) glue them to a box and he can wear it as his "uniform".....Cape shaped would work GREAT for that.

Make sure he knows you have something planned for the whole week-end so he doesn't make any other plans for Friday night or Saturday. You don't have to give details, but at least give him a chance to make sure his favorite shirt is clean and ready to be packed for a trip.
Now for the costume, don't put him in anything that would be embarrassing to wear out in public away from the contest. Your best chance of fun will be jeans and a T-shirt. Get a blue T-shirt and on the front put a red S. On the back say "Our Super Dad" with the girls pictures. Make a long cape in red that will come down to his knees, and decorate the cape like crazy with all the things you and the girls love about him. He can wear the cape in the contest, and take it off later to be saved. The girls can write on the cape with their messages, and draw pictures. You can also tack on small items for decorations.

What a great way to show Dad what you think of him!
Buy some of the printable fabric sheets, scan and print pictures of each of your 3 daughters on your computer, put them on the front of a Tshirt in his favorite color and letter it with "Superdad to Sally, Amy & Linda" (use the names of your daughters.) Make him a cape out of matching fabric to the Tshirt and letter it the same way. You could put the pictures on the cape as well. You could make him a hat to wear for the contest too. Maybe bond something to a baseball cap... like "Superdad" and you could put small pictures of the girls on it as well. Example: @SUPER@DAD@ the @= a picture
You can use iron on Wonder Under to attach the fabric pictures by ironing them on and you could do the same with the lettering by using cut out fabric letters that match the fabric from the pictures or contrast to the background fabric. Just follow the directions on the package. Be sure to use a pressing cloth over the printed pictures though. The heat will also help the print become more permanent. The cape could just be a simple 1 1/2 yard of cotton fabric that could be tied or pinned at the front of the neck and taken off to go celebrate winning the contest at lunch. You could sew or applique' the items on if you do sew. It sounds like a really fun project, and it can be an easy to do project that your girls could help with, depending on their ages.
I really don't know why he'd be embarrassed by this. I'm sure he loves his daughters and is very proud to be their dad. He'd probably love the Tshirt and ball cap. Good Luck, have a great time!

Well, since he's probably going to be protecting his sweet daughters from all the cute boys that will want to take them out, you could dress him in a caveman costume with a big S on the chest made from rhinestones and carrying a large club. That would be cute!

Well, I'm a chick and I think this is a bad idea. I have to say that a majority of men would be peeved beyond all words if they were forced to dress in a costume on any day and putting them on the spot in front of other people with this confrontation would just add to the anger and on the day that is supposed to be just for them, something like this would just be the icing on the cake that ruined the whole day for them. I don't know of any man in my family who would do something like this. They would be furious if they were told they had to dress up and would refuse to do it, especially on the day that is supposed to be for them to do and say and eat what they pleased when they'd rather be sitting in front of the tv watching football which is what we women are supposed to let them do. I'm sorry, but I think approaching this as a surprise is the completely wrong approach. Of course he's going to do it for the kids, but it doesn't mean he's not going to be mad as heck about it. Brunch at a cool restaurant: great surprise. Sports tickets: great surprise. The gift he always wanted: great surprise. Being forced to dress up, in his eyes, like a dork..... not such a great surprise. You had better be absolutely 100% sure beyond any reasonable doubt that daddy is going to be totally up for this. I would suggest asking him about this one before dragging him off to his complete embarrassment.

I don't think that this is a good idea, unless he has been known to do something like this before.
Sure, take him away for the weekend, show him a good time, but I don't think that he'll love this costume thing.

you should think of a theme you would like to have for your husband. Like what does he like to do (bbq, fishing, his job, etc.) them take that theme that you have for your husband and make his costume out of those certain things with the theme or incorporate some of those things.
for example, if your husband was to be a firefighter, buy him or make him a superman suit (the real deal), them for the S part decorate it in flames, make him wear ff boots, and cut up a ff jacket to be the cape.
If I knew what kinds of stuff he likes, maybe I can help you out more.

Just neuter him now and be done with it.
This is such a chick thing, poor guy. Do him a favor, you and their "girls" take the weekend away from him. Now that is a real gift.
What man would want to win a "very cute contest"? Too much estrogen in that household.
My god, do women really think their husband would like this sort of thing?

I think you should camp it up without emasculating him. Wanting to see your man in drag is sick! Put him in mens pajamas and tie a towel around his neck. I think that would be funny.
