SMS is just a form of email. You need the phone number and carrier to form the address.

1234567890@vmbl.com is the way Virgin Mobile does it.
1234567890@sprintpcs for Sprint
1234567890@cingularME.com for Cingular (ATT)

In each case the numbers are the persons 10 digit phone number

Yahoo Messenger can send SMS messages, but you might also look at a new site called http://www.gizmosms.com/ which is a free site and supports tons of countries. You might want to stick with messenger to handle replies; GizmoSMS.com may only be a sender.
