My daughters in High School & she came home today & told me that a white girl was beaten up by at least 6 black girls because she uses that n word. Now while I don't like to see a young girl get hurt I think that people have to watch the words they use & not offend others. If you go around using that word it will come back to get you. Do you agree?

While it's very true that our words have power, you simply don't have a right to physically assault someone because of a slur or insult. I've been called names before but that doesn't mean I had a right to physically attack the person who did the namecalling. There are far better ways of handling a racial slur such as telling a teacher, a school administrator or the principal about it, and letting them deal with the student. It sounds like you sort of condone the beating because the girl that was beat up had said the "N" word. If that's the case, then you definitely are wrong. In my opinion, the six Black girls who jumped the girl need to be suspended from school and the cops need to arrest them for aggravated assault and battery. There is no excuse for violence.

It depends on how the girl said the word. If she said it "N_i_g_g_a" like as in "N_i_g_g_a Please" [which is like "Please....Your kidding me"], then the girl shouldn't have been touched at all because everyone says it.

However, if she went and flat out called a black person a "N_i_g_g_e_r", then yes, I believe that she deserved it.

It doesn't matter what color a person is. I know probably there will be a lot of racist biggots on here saying other stuff, but the girl deserved it. If I was black and someone called me the N word, I would probably beat the **** out of them as well.

& yes. I agree with the first answer. Someone needs to educate the girl on not to use the word. She's in high school, but maybe she never learned that as a child. Maybe she should go to the guidance office at her school and try to recieve help for this racist behavior.

There's something not quite right with that reasoning....did somebody tell this girl that using the n word was bad? Or did she see other people saying it and is just emulating? Do you know if the girl used the word in a vindictive way?
Yes, some people will get what they have coming to them, but not all people who make mistakes realize they are making mistakes....others have to educate them.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
I agree with the rest of the answers that the black girls are just as wrong for resorting to violence and that it does reinforce the current stereotypes about black people. I still don't think your reasoning is right that the white girl got what she deserve.

I totally agree with you.... the girl deserved what she got... she was being very vulgar by using the n word... if she actually knew better she would not have used it in the first place... what does her parents have to say about this?... she should have been taught better than that... if i was the girl she used that word on, I would have reacted in the same way..

I am not a racist.. but there is a fine line between disrespect, and respect.... she crossed the line, and SHE DESERVED WHAT SHE GOT!!!!!
Since she got beat up.. maybe now her mother will teach her some manners... lol

yes , I do agree that people should not offend others. However beating someone up is a very serious crime -and should be dealt with by the police and not be condoned.

The possible suggestion that offending or verbally insulting someone deserves such a beating I most definitely disagree with.

Why did it take 6 black girls to beat her up? Do these girls know they can be expelled for such behavior? Racial slurs are bad, but you don't do time for them. What they did was illegal. The girls would have been smarter to ignore her.

I think the idiots who beat her were as ignorant for what they did as she was for what she said. Violence doesn't help anyone learn. They've just perpetuated a stereotype by beating her in such a large group.....
