Not an algae eater - these like pellets & bloodworms much better! http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/south-american-catfish/spotted-raphael-catfish/100072.asp

Interesting fish though - especially when they "talk".

If you're looking for something that will eat algae, a pleco (come in adult sizes from 4-18" depending on variety) or group of Otocinclus catfish (1 1/2" as adults) would be a better choice, depending on the size of your tank. These can also eat algae pellets and fresh greens (leafy greens, zucchini, cucumber) if there's not enough algae for them.

Raphaels are catfish, not plecos, and they don't eat algae off the glass (nor will plecos) or from anywhere else.
They are carnivorous fish, so offer him some sinking shrimp pellets instead.

they're not algea eaters and they need to be fed sinking pellets. also beware a cupple things with them NEVER catch them with a net, they will get stuck, and make sure you dont have any decorations they can wedge themself inside of, if they get up in something then get scared their spikes flair up and they cant back out

Most fishes do. I would think so. But they won't do as good a job as a plecostimus or a Chinese algae eater. It's just a snack to them.
