We have several people who access the same list, from finding "work assigned to me" to finding the "status of all to do's" for the team. I've tried google spreadsheet but found it too slow and cumbersome. I've seen http://www.backpackit.com/ but that looked too much.

Use Outlook and purchase a product called ShareO from the following website. You can share tasks and folders, even if you're on separate servers and email accounts.
