1. Freedom of speech has sometimes been interperted to include clothing. Youth should have the right to express this in any way they see fit (as long as goes along with school values).
2. Uniforms are form-fitted for a certain physique. They are made by designers to fit a stereotypical shape. Students who are bigger than normal may not look as good in these uniforms and are put at a disadvantage.
3. Better learning occurs in areas where indepedent thinking and creativity is encouraged instead of restricted.
4. Will likely reduce school attendance. Students who already dislike school may skip more often. Students may "forget" to wash their uniform and thus not attend school.
Hope this helps!

1. Uniforms prevent individuality and creativity. They also violate the freedom of expression. A lot of students express their characters through the clothings they wear.
2. The student's freedom of choice is limited. America is supposed to be a free country, yet the school board is forcing students to wear what they might not like.
3. Uniforms are not costless. People still have buy them. Sometimes a uniform costs more than the family can afford.
4. Uniforms can be uncomfortable to wear. Students might not be able to concentrate or perform well in school. Also, uniforms make students feel embarrash if they do not look good in them.

Uniforms like in the military can make a person a target for terrorists on civilian planes. Uniforms like in a hospital setting can increase fear and anxiety in children. Uniforms used in police departments may illicit fear or hostility from others or even a sense of distrust. With all the corruption going on these days, a policeman isn't always viewed as a safe authority. School uniforms can sometimes be difficult to ascertain a missing student because everyone is in the same garb. Student uniforms do not encourage individualism and stifles creativity in a child. Student uniforms may signal to a pedophile which school the child goes to. Some students cannot afford uniforms. I'm running out of ideas. Good luck on your essay. Have a nice day.

OK.... I am a teacher in a school that mandates uniforms... I also have 4 kids... I am sick of the smae yadda, yadda, yadda, bs answers...
here are the REAL problems
1) the do NOT protect students from intruders: uniforms can be bought at ANY store (guaranteed by anti-monopoly laws) so any Tom, Dick or HArry can buy them. Since ANYONE can buy a uniform and people ASSUME that isnt the case, it makes it easier for strangers to sneak onto school campuses.
2) they do NOT make students safer: when a student is doing somethign dangerous or in violation of school rules/safety measures it is harder to distinguish individuals in a crowd of uniforms than in a crowd of free dress style clothing. As uniforms imply... they are uniform... they all look the same... so if you see one person attack another, by the time duty teachers get there the attacker can be gone and hiding in the crowd.... so uniforms facilitate breaking safty rules
3) they do NOT imporve apearance more than a strict dress code would, NOR do they reduce distractions in class due to apearance: most districts in our state that have gone to uniforms do so for appearance. However, uniform pants can sag, shorts can be too short, & shirts too tight. If student dress codes were enforced for regular clothing, unifomrs would not be needed to deal (ineffectiv4ely) with these.
4) uniforms negatively affect teh Self esteem of studetns that are shorter, taller, skinier, or fatter than most of their peers: uniforms areuniform. They are not designed to accomodate multiple sizes and shapes. Therefore, most are cut to fit the majority (average) of the population and teh others look poorly dressed in them.
5) uniforms do NOT eliminate the discrepencies between teh haves & have nots as proponents would have you think: the haves still have more expensive shoes, socks, bookbags, jewelry, etc and the havenots now have TWO wardrobes to buy for: school & home.

Can't help you, I think everyone should be forced to wear uniforms. Actually, if you look at our society you'll see we all do wear uniforms. Look at the TV show cops for instance, the police all have uniforms, the fat pig of a girlfriend always dresses the same, the toothless mother-in-law always dresses the same, and the suspects all have too long dirty hair, t-shirt, jeans, and a bad attitude. See, we do all wear uniforms.

Ok,
They shouldent be worn because children cannot express themselves with them on, and it takes away from personality.
Most are expensive to buy.
The matinence for uniforms is alot, you have to always wash and iron them!
They are not very comfortable, and enables you to move in certain directions! Also the fabric in them may be so thin they are see through! Also they do not look good on all body types.

I hate uniforms. At my school, tuck in shirts, belts and a very strict dress code. It makes the nerds look more like nerds and some cool people nerdy. It's wrong brutal and unfair. That's how I feel.

~Makes children/teenagers unable to express individuality
~Severe costs for school, district, and parents
~Don't learn how to pick out proper clothes for yourself, you're simply wearing what you're told to wear
~Most uniforms force females to wear skirts, and many girls/parents may not agree with skirts (for religious issues, appearance issues...)
