Pride and Prejudice! it's one of my favorite books. i love it for what it is. it takes you out of modern day life and lets you glimpse another time. and the movie that came out in '05 rocks too. you know what's freaky though? when i read the title of your question, before i'd read the real thing, i though it'd be about Austen......kinda weird
peace

Pride and Prejudice. I loved the witty banter, description (though not the part where they take like 3 pages to describe Sunday breakfast) that kinda gets old =p and I also liked the story. The tension between the two <3 so beautiful. It also showed alot about the time period like the vernacular, behavior, expectations and traditions. I really like historical (of course, it wasn't historical when she wrote it) books that can give me insight to other times and cultures.

Sense and Sensebility. It is a good book, especially if you wanted to start reading Jane Austen books. It has a good plot too.

Pride and Prejudice is the best, then is Persuasion. With Pride and Prejudice, you get the romance, excitement, and humor (try finding a character to compare with Mr. Collins).

Pride & Prejudice
Then follow it up with one of the many movies (I would recommend the 5 hour BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth)
