Sounds more like they are scared of snakes.
How old are you?If your under 16 in the UK you can't buy a pet without them so you will have to win them over or wait.
If you are 16 then are your parents the type who'd kick you out for making them really mad?If no read on.
Do you have the money to buy the snake and everything for it-viv,heat lamp etc-yourself?If yes read on.
If your 16,have the cash and are sure it won't get you kicked out just buy the snake and tell them to get over it-they will eventually.
If you do get it and they threaten to get rid of it they can't-at 16 provided things are given to you as a gift or bought with your money you own them and your parents can be done for theft for taking them.
I did this at 16 when I bought a tarantula-mum was mad but got over it.I'm now 25 and still have the same spider lol.

Keeping a Snake is very expensive. I have a Royal (Ball) Python and a Boa Constrictor. The initial cost of both vivariums, food and Snakes themselves were £250.00 each!!
They also require around the clock heating which also adds to the cost and you will also have to get bigger viv's the bigger your snakes get. My Boa is 3 yrs old and 7 foot long and on her 3rd viv already!
Whereas my Python is 4 1/2 foot at 3yrs and in his second viv. Also take into consideration that you have to buy/store frozen food for them (mainly mice or rats with Pythons and Boa's) so maybe your parents don't fancy the idea of keeping dead rodents in the freezer with the burgers!
Best thing you can do is research which type of snake you would like to keep and find out as much about keeping it as possible as well as costs involved. Royals are often reccommended as starter snakes but they can be sulky and agoraphobic so need plenty of places to hide in too.
Also keep in mind that they are long term pets and often live 10 - 20 years depending on species and care. Try looking on the below sites for some more ideas.

Aww!
Well, maybe they don't like snakes, but don't actually want to come out with that and hurt your feelings? Why not wait a while and ask them again, at a time when they are in a really good mood? This is when I used to ask my parents for stuff lol Maybe try asking for another pet. Is there anything else you would like to have for a pet? They might say "OK" to something else. It's worth a shot, right? :) Good luck!

The world record rat lived for 7 yrs and 4 mos. His name was Rodney.
I hope you get a rat because in all the years in the pet buz the only critters that didnt bite me were the rats! They are so gentile and are as faithful as a puppies but eat less! They can learn tricks and will do anything just for fun!
:)...........Helives!

It all depends what kind of snake you want. Personally I think a cornsnake would be the best for you. I don't know what it is about snakes that people fear !! I myself have a boa-constrictor. Her name is Isis and just over ten foot. She is now in the process of having another Viv made for her. I also have a bearded dragon and he is easier to handle than Isis (I need someone here to help me, shes heavy too !) Perhaps a beardie would be better for you. Its something to think about as they are easily handled and love being handled.

A snake is very quick and if you leave the tank open it will be out, and you'll never find it. They get into the tiniest warm place. they are probably just making excuses cos most women don't like snakes.!

This is what you do. Buy a poisonous snake and get it to bite your parents. Once they're dead. You can keep the pet.

lol i think if my kids wanted a snake i'd be saying things too.
you parents probably don't want you to have a snake and instead of giving you a straight answer they are going around the subject.
ask them out right is it because you don't want me to have a snake .
If they say yes you have alot of sweet talking to do and promise never to put it in mum's bed to scare her (thats what i'd worry about !

Maybe mom is afraid that the snake will get loose and she will run into it somewhere sometime in the house, and like most mom's it's not an idea that is very appealing to her.
