Softball already is a hitting sport if you put in a grass infield to slow down ground balls more with 60 foot bases you would be playing games forever.

So when a ground ball is hit it has a better chance of making it to the outfield past the infielders. Softball is all about pitching and hitting. When the softball is hit it has less velocity then a baseball. The grass is used to slow the ball. It is simply not needed for softball. The dirt is also less costly to maintain then grass. So the grounds people don't grow it on softball fields.

A grass infield is too fast. The softball field is the same size as a little league field (Small). When a 225 pound batter hits a grounder, at lightning speed, the friction of a dirt field will slow it down, JUST, a little bit more, giving the infielder a better chance to react and not catch it in the eye socket, like my brother did once. If it were a grass infield, hard hit grounders would just skid by the infielders.

Not all of them do. It really has nothing to do with the game but more to do with how to care for the field and the fact that the field may be used for more than one baseball configuration if needed. It's easier to smooth out dirt than to mow it once a week and dirt is more durable when you have games played daily and/or nightly.
Baseball has another issue in that a ball thrown at 70mph will be returned at 100 and for safety, the fields are usually required to have grass to slow it down. And since the majority of those games will be played by kids 8-18 years old, safety is a focus more than adults playing softball.

because the bases are only 60ft. instead of 90ft. so the ball moves quicker in a dirt infield.
