When I first read the question, I asked myself: How can you be convicted of a crime and do time if you're dead? But for those who fail(meaning they survived), I searched and did not find anything about suicide being a crime. I don't think the federal government would be able to pass a law banning suicide for many reasons, one of which I mention below.
In some states it is a crime to assist someone who wishes to commit suicide, as some other yahoo members have mentioned. The Supreme Court struck down a federal (bush administration) directive to make a federal law banning assisted suicide, leaving it up to the states to determine their own positions on this issue.

I'm so sure they have a container to catch and keep the souls of the departed in jail.

In most states and provinces, neither suicide nor attempted suicide is a crime.
Assisting someone else to commit suicide often is, however.

Suicide is when a person chooses to kill theirselves and that is not a crime when that person is doing to her self. FYI Suicide means death.

yes, and if you see someone about to commit suicide and you dont try to stop them your in trouble too.
