Maybe it has something to do with the enviromnent, but once I'm in school, I feel very insignificant. Like, nothing is worth doing unless it is for a grade or popularity. The things that should matter to me, slip between the cracks and I'm left with very little of my sanity.

Cause you are like a trapped tiger in a cage that paces back and forth until he is nuts.

If you are asking this question is because you know something is wrong with your feeling, you do not have to feel insignificant, that is something that happen in the world now, they show you all the time that if you are not famous you are nothing but I ask you something, when you see somebody famous at the street or TV or whatever, you recognise that person for what he/she did but do you thing he knows something or he/she care about you??He/she doesn't even know that you exist so why the people has to be so st....id to be all the time looking what the others are doing?? you have to be like you are in the way you want and you will be happy with yourself and you will find your way but be smart, the school is full of different people that think different and they don't really care about you(your friends included) they can f... your life if you choose the wrong onces ,probably they look cool but then when you grow you will see the difference. You can be the most crazy in the school and do the most s...id things because is part of the life of a teen, but always thinking about your future after the school.Popularity is nice but on the other hand you can be popular if you do something complety stupid or crazy but nobody cares, for example ,if the singer of your best music group die, it is going to be a new for one day , but after that , who cares, he was only one more of millions, so live your life the better you can and forget about popularity.
I hope I answer your question or help you a littlebit .
cheers.

I agree school is tough these days, but you have to look at the bigger picture. Why are you there? Do you want to better your life? ,school is only a small part of your life and you will not be there for ever. It's sad that you feel insignificant, but remember most other students feel the same way at some time (I know I have). Fortunately the popularity thing goes away when you become an adult and enter in the real world where you have to prove yourself. Don't give up! just believe in yourself and what your doing and you'll be o.k.

Hey, at least you admit it. You are EXTREMELY mature to recognize this as being a problem. Most high schoolers (and even some college students) fall into this trap. I have to say though, that this is what high school is like. Period. It is all about the following:
a) grades
b) popularity
c) boyfriends/girlfriends
d) finding individuality
It sounds to me like you are focusing on "d" at this point, which I find absolutely fantastic. I hope (really really really hope) that you have friends like you--people who recognize that it's all a game and that it's okay to be unique--even at the price of being labeled as a loser.
I would have loved to have had a friend like you and congratulate you on your level of maturity. I feel bad for you, however, in that you are probably an extremely lonely person. Guess what, though. Someday soon, you will be so pleased to find that because you know WHO YOU ARE, you will be able to figure out your life and what you want from it much faster than most people do.
Just try to focus on being you as much as you possibly can.

It is because school is a horror house that tries to put all the knowlage in the world into your head, while the teachers dont even know 1/2 the stuff, and they keep tossing it at you untill your head explodes, and then there are people like you and me who go compleatly crazy over school because it has so much to do with social life, and then there is homework and grades and it gets so piled up that you go crazy and ask about it on yahoo answers, only to find that this happens to everyone, and now, because you have relized what this thing called school is doing to you, you can run, man , run!!!!!!!!!

Hope I helped!

Well, that is something you, and only you can fix... And unfortunately, if you aren't up to the challenge, then the outcome is the exact feelings you are experiencing right now... I am 21, so it has not been so long since I was in your shoes, and actually I find that in any career/part of life you are in, you actually face feelings just like this.. it might not be for a grade/popularity anymore, but it might be for the raise/promotion/success... so here are some pearls of advice.. so to speak :)

just because you have to go to school, doesn't mean you have to feel that it is boring and that you are losing touch with your inner "you"! :) of course there are classes you have to take, but with any space/periods you have open for your choice, choose what you enjoy and what will also help you in your future... and your future goal should already be something that fits you and that you will excel and achieve in, but you still have fun!!! smile! always a huge help, even if you aren't having a great day, smile, its contagious, meaning when others see you smile at them, they'll return the :) and you'll start to feel the tense feel slide a bit!... do your work, and do it to your best ability, but don't be afraid to put your own spin on it... yeah, the teacher gave your guidlines, hoping that you'll take it and make it your own.. thats what they want, its be boring to be a teacher and get the same result from 300 students every day!!

wear fun clothes, be a trend setter!! so what if the "popular" crowd looks at that awesome scarf you suavely tied about your waste or neck... just watch, by the next 2 weeks you'll start to see others trying it out... ... I know from experience.. its not superficial, or vain. loving the skin and clothes your in can turn a bad day to a good day... wear purple mascara! do something that you are comfortable with, but you know it'll catch attention.... school might be a boring place at times, but you can make it better...

Taking art classes was my big "out" ... the more design, paint, and color classes i took, the more I felt intune with my inner Me, and the more comfortable I became with myself... and the more interesting/fun life became...

maybe art isn't your thing.. but i know there is something... and don't let what cool kids say/do bother you... outside of school the world doesn't revolve around them, so it shouldn't in school either, we're all human!... easier said than done I know, but I was never a popular kid, but everyone knew me, because I wasn't afraid to be me, talk to everyone, and just have fun with it... and grades, yes important, but don't let them become your ball and chain.. think of them as they keys to your future..

I think humans are naturally very curious beings and want to learn...but the school environment doesn't really do a very good job of cultivating that, since success in school is based on merit and rewards (whether you get what you are learning or not) and not on retaining things and actually learning.

Guess what? When you go into the work force it will still be that way. In school your nothing more than a body and a grade. At work, your a body that does a job that needs done.

Because it's school. Nobody really likes it and it can make anybody crazy! LOL! But trust me you'll miss it when you graduate.
