What else can we do? Wide open borders, free heath care and billions of dollars flowing back to those currupt countries. Yeah Neglect...

You are correct, the US has NOT neglected Latin American and the Caribbean.

It meddled in the politics of soveriegn countries (Chile is such a perfect example), it's companies have been responsible for deaths of workers working with unions (same unions that the US loves at home!) and so much more.

Putting a tariff of 54 cents on Brazilian ethanol to protect US farmers isn't neglecting in any way either. One minute the US says it wants to help nations, but then it focuses on policies that hurt these economies.

The US is more interested in trade that benefits it and only it. Chiquitas and Dole own so much land in latin america for banana production and where do the profits go? duh!

The policies prescribed by the IMF, World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank have pretty much all failed as well, thanks for the help, maybe neglect would have really been better.

No, the United States has definitely not neglected Latin America. Installing puppet governments, exploiting indigenous people, re-writing constitutions for the sake of U.S. corporations, killing civilians, Yeah Neglect..

Perhaps like the ethanol in Brazil, it is time we gave the Latin American Countries a hand to become self sufficient instead of a hand out as we have done in the past.
