amoxicillin, and pregnancy???

Question

im waiting to see if im pregnant or not, but went to dentist today and got antibiotics for a tooth infection, iv just read on packet you have to tell doc if you think you are pregnant, should i not take them incase i am?? as anyone been on antibiotics while pregnant??

im only 3 days late with period and dentist has put me on 500mg for 7 days, thanks for all your replys xx

Call the doctor who prescribe them and talk with them!!! They should be able to advise you. Good luck.

It's been my experience that as long as you're not allergic to penicillin, Amoxicillin is safe to use when pregnant after the 12-13 wk mark. I've taken it and also Zythromax when I was pregnant; as a matter of fact, I've been hospitalized with kidney infections when pregnant and put on stronger antibiotics than that. I think the most important thing is the timing of the pregnancy; typically an ob/gyn doesn't prescribe anything until you're safely in the second trimester, unless it's a matter of keeping you alive.

I had a couple of courses or amoxicillin when I was pregnant, it is one of the only antibiotics that they will give you when pregnant. Although it is best to avoid any medication while pregnant, if you have an infection it needs treating as it will just get worse and put you and possible baby at much greater risk.
However if you are worried ring your doctor or NHS direct if in UK. Also do a test !!! Good luck xxx

I wouldn't if I were you, I'd speak to the doc like the packet says. 500mg (is it 3 times aday as well?) is a fairly high dosage so it's best just to find out first if it's allowed or if you are pregnant.

I'd say go to a pharmacist and ask but I went there the other day and was told due to new legislation they aren't allowed to answer any pregnancy questions!!! Dumb huh??!!

You could also ring NHS direct.

If I were you I would speak to the dentist or your doctor, but do a pregnancy test first, if you are then ask, if not take them, Can't remember if I was on antibiotics when pregnant, but until you have found out whether you are pregnant or not and have asked your doctor, you can take pain killers, (paracetamol) if you are in pain.

If it amoxicillin, you are fine. That is safe to take during pregnancy. I thought I might be preggo not too long ago and told the doc when I had a sinus infection, so she prescribed amoxicillin because it is safe. If it is something else, you may want to check with a doctor.

I wouldn't worry too much. I had to take amoxicillin early on in my pregnancy and as long as you are not over doing it with the meds you're gonna be fine. Talk to your doc and get a complete list of what meds and such are safe to take while pregnant. Good luck:)

Yes, you need to tell dentist and don't take anything before it gets o.k.d. There are some antibiotics that are safe for pregnancy and some that aren't.

I was on antibiotics when pregnant four times for kidney infections... but keep in mind that my doctor KNEW, so my dose may have been less.. and they would choose one that was safe to take while pregnant. Definately let your doctor know.. because better safe than sorry!

I was on amoxicillin when I got pregnant with my daughter. I was only on it about a week after I conceived, and she turned out fine. It would depend on how far along you think you are. If you're really concerned, contact your dentist, or even your regular primary physician.

wondered what u meant by ur w8ing to see if your pregnant!! lol. anywayz. i'd advise u not 2 take the amoxicillin just incase u r pregnant. i kno u can take it while ur pregnant cuz my (idiot) of a doc told me dat if my stomach dnt stop hurting (hav a lovely urine infection apparently) he'd have to put me on it. i say he's an idiot cuz im allergic to it and the sentence b4 he told me this i'd just said i'm allergic to it!!! the prat...but yea. dnt take it n make a doc's appointment n tlk 2 ur doc abt it.
