I have many friends with irregular cycles, and they have done what I did (although my cycles were not irregular) when I wanted to become pregnant: charted their fertility signs to determine when they were ovulating. Fertility Awareness involves taking your temperature every morning, checking the quality and quantity of your cerval fluids (aka cervical mucous), and, if you can and are comfortable doing so, checking your cervix daily (I never did the last one...most of my friends didn't either, for various reasons).

Cervical fluid changes throughout your cycle, typically going from dry, to sticky, to creamy, to stretchy (basically, like egg whites). The egg white like quality happens right before you ovulate, so cervical fluids are a fantastic indicator of fertility and ovulation. In addition, the increased progesterone in your body after ovulation causes your basal body temperature to rise; while this doesn't happen until after you ovulate it confirms that ovulation did occur (plus, many women see their temperature dip just before they ovulate). As for the cervix, things like whether it's high or low, open or closed, and hard or soft are indicators of ovulation. If you learn to check your body's signs you'll know when you're at your most fertile.

Yes, you can use ovulation kits or tests but these become very expensive, especially if you have an irregular cycle, and they're not always accurate or easy to read. You can also just have sex every other day -- although, if you end up trying for a while, or if your cycles are really irregular and may be very long, that might not be a very...palatable...choice in the long run (it doesn't help when having sex becomes a chore!).

If you do want to try Fertility Awareness, I recommend you take a look at the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. Also, the forums at http://www.tcoyf.com are a great resource.

Best of luck.

If your periods are irregular you can purchase an ovulation kit to help you determine when you are ovulating. This will take the guess work out of it for you. Good luck.

Ovulation often happens genuine in the midst of your cycle. in case you're due on your era in a pair days, maximum possibly you're previous ovulation. yet this is relatively in user-friendly terms a instruction manual. i does not use that records as a delivery administration technique or something. i'm able to tell while i'm ovulating because of the fact i think crampy, in user-friendly terms for extra or less an hour or 2, genuine in the midst of my cycle. that is in many circumstances one week after my era ends. I even have extra discharge then -- in basic terms sparkling, yet nevertheless better than time-honored.

Well, it would be difficult if you could only have sex once a month.

The answer is EASY. Have sex every other day. Most fertility doctors where I live basically won't talk to you unless you've had sex every other day for a year with no pregnancy. You do not need to chart your ovulation, you need to have sex regularly so that whenever it happens, you've got it covered.

Sperm can survive 48 hours in the body, so even if you ovulate on your 'off' day, you can still get pregnant.

You have sex every other day. Having sex 3 days after your period won't do a thing unless you know for sure you ovulate then. have sex every other day, most women ovulate 2 weeks before their period. NOT 3 days after. That may be true for some but that's a dumb answer. Good luck!

i have the same problem. i wouldn't get the ovulation strips because you won't ever be sure when to test and they will get very expensive. try this link i have it and it is pretty cool. it more more at first than the strips but it will save you lots in the long run! good luck to us both!!

if you have sex as often as possible, comfortable or practical. you are very likely to find a time close to when you are ovulating it shouldn't be such a complicated thing people have been doing it for millions of years

first you have to figure out if you are ovulating. you can do this by charting your BBT, cervical mucus and position of the cervix.
