I am doing my thesis on the double standard of punishment for male sexual predators and female sexual predators. Most of the research I have done show men doing jail time and women getting probation (Debra Lafave). Can you believe the judge did not send her to prison because she was "too pretty" Anyway I believe men get screwed in many issues such as child support, visitation rights and now prison time. I would like to hear how you guys feel about this. Do you think there is a double standard? Women have always been known as the "weaker sex." Is that why we get lighter prison sentences than men. If a man has sex with a young girl he is sick and should be shot. If a woman has sex with a young boy that shoud be okay because boys are "supposed to like sex." Okay I welcome all feedback, and thank you for helping with my thesis.

there is a lot of double standards when it come to the sex's and i find it interesting how those double standards have changed over the years 40 yrs ago all the double standads were in mens favors. Do i agree with double standards no but it is what it is. male sexual predator get longer sentances for a couple of different reasons.
1) when a man rapes a women it is violent, when a women "rapes" a boy, it is completly consentual and no force is used. a women doesn't have to force anything just rub it lol.
2) it does more mental/emotional damage to a female because of society. men are looked at like hey you scored with an older women your cool. where are women are ashamed.

there are other double standard that i think need to be changed like

1)divorce,parental rights, child support - all automatically go in the females favors and i think there are enought single fathers nowadays that that should not be the case, us men can raise a child as well as a women

2)domestic voilence - women have no problem hitting a man, but if you smack them back men are put in jail and looked at as scum. to me it has nothing to do with physically hurting someone. if my girl hit me, its over you will respect me as much as i respect you and thats all there is to it. stop with the hypocracy

3)cheating and untruthfulness in a relationship - women alway say men are cheaters and liars yet almost every women i know has cheated on thier boyfriends at some point (your just better at keeping it a secret 8p ) and women tend not to lie but you convinently forget to tell the whole truth (in my opnion this is the same as lieing) because you would have told us if we wouldn't have minded

4) money - women say they do not date guys cause of money but then they never date a guy who makes less then them and when they are confronted about it they say they are looking for security. in todays age were women make the about the same as men this is no excuse. a relationship is suppost to be a partnership 50/50 yet that isn't what women want, they want a man to atke care of them

ok i gues i'll stop my rant now lol. but this is the truth as i see it. and i am not really upset about it (except that last one)

I believe the reason why women get a lesser punishment is only because of what history has taught us. Like you said, women have always been deemed the "weaker" sex. Therefore, a woman being perceived as a "predator" is difficult for many men. The whole idea of a man forcing himself on a sixteen yr old little girl is repulsive, but a 22 yr old, georgeous female teacher "seducing" a sixteen yr old boy?? See how different that can come across? There are also many men who today admit that they had a teacher in jr. high or highschool with whom they'd love to have had a hot and steamy affair with. This doesn't help. Another factor is that some of these women use the "Im in love" tactic. Whether it be true or not, it works on their peers because most men agree that women think more emotionally than rationally. Then you throw in prior sexual abuse and a beautiful face, and there you go! How could any man put her in a cold, dark prison?! .

Fact is, many of these women do need help, but they should pay for their actions. Just as a man would! What they are doing is wrong, and they are abusing not only the child, but the court system as well!

Men are not getting screwed. The law is there to protect the children. As for women, The court rules in a case by case basis. I believe they get off easier than men because they may form an emotional attachment to the minor , hence positioning themselves as a "person in love" rather than a predator. Also I think it has something to do with penetration and violation of a body. In a woman's case, the minor is doing the penetration, so judges are less disguised with the image of the woman lose on the streets.

About child support, the laws are changing and they differ from state to state . In many states, the parent earning the most is the one that has to pay child support .

Because the illegal sexual activity occurred in two different counties, two separate sets of charges were filed. A trial date was set for December 5 at a court hearing after the prosecution and the defense could not agree on a plea bargain. The prosecution's plea deal involved prison time, which Debra and her parents found unacceptable. Debra's defense attorney caused a national stir that made headlines by remarking to the media that "To place Debbie into a Florida state women's penitentiary, to place an attractive young woman in that kind of hell hole, is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions." In a book written by her ex-husband Owen Lafave, he suggests that this statement was an intentional ploy by the attorney.

Shortly before the trial was scheduled to begin, the victim's mother, who had been insisting that Debra serve time in prison, learned that the trial was to be covered by Court TV and changed her stance, agreeing to a plea bargain with no prison time to prevent her son from having to testify in court. A new plea agreement was quickly worked out.

On November 22, 2005, Debra pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years of Community Control (house arrest) and seven years of probation, along with a string of other requirements.

However, on December 8, 2005, the judge in the second county refused to accept plea-agreement terms that included no prison time, and set a trial date for April 10, 2006. In an unusual act, the prosecutor announced the charges were being dropped, in effect overruling the judge.

LaFave is serving probation until 2015 and her teaching certificate has been revoked.

Thus the saga of "plea agreements" made between prosecution and defense attorneys continues.

The judicial system is deeply burdened and often seeks assistance with the system through plea agreements.

Is this fair? Each case MUST be adjudicated upon its OWN merit and nothing more. As such....the system, though not perfect, is the best available.

Best wishes.

In CA, the situation is completely different. It is a simple matter of lack of space for males. The prison system for the males is hopelessly overcrowded, and thus they get released at a small percentage of their sentence. Women inmates do not have this issue and usually serve almost all of their time. The overcrowding situation is so severe as far as male inmates that the Federal government is threatening to take over prison operations in June, which will result in a massive amount of early releases for male inmates. Women would not be affected.

Wooopigs, are you really a female, or for that matter are you really a person? Yes it's double standard. You left out domestic violence. My ex tried to set me up to be murderd, it was ignored, as a matter of fact I heard " you just have to realize how she was raised, and this was from my own mom and my brothers and sisters. Later she attacked me, pulling out my hair and I threw her off and she bumped her head, yea you got it right, I went to jail. Visitation for my daughter was an episode every other weekend, and when she was to get my son for the weekend yes you guessed again, she never showed up. No I don't get it, I'm from Georgia and what I went through and I saw my deacesd son go through the double standard is sometimes to much to take. Attorneys love it because of the money they make off it. Good Luck on your thesis, and I hope some of this helped. As far as predators go, I got a divorce and alot other men in Georgia has because of a new law called "marriageable rape." What the hell has Amerca come to except scandoulas lawsuits and how can I benefit from being a criminal that can't be prosecuted because of my gender?

I agree that there is a double standard, but I don't think thath men are getting screwed. I think that the women are getting off light. As far as I am concerned, child sex predators should be publicly beaten to death, slowly, over a few days, allowed to suffer for as long as possible.

Now granted, if I was still in HS and a female teacher wanted to have sex with me, I would be the school stud. You would not find me crying myself to sleep at night. My HS English teacher....oh, off topic.

I think anyone who would take advantage of a child for sexual gratification should be buried under the prison. that being said tho, boys will usually consider themselves lucky if a woman shows an interest in having sex with them. never having been a girl I wouldn't know how they view it

I guess you have to look at the circumstances in each case. I have first hand knowledge of this. I think you need more specific questions. Like, was a drug used to inhibit thinking of any party. Did the minor male try to tell the female or was it like a conquest for him. I lived through one of these cases and I certainly have input.
