Schools shouldn't be teaching issues of sexuality other than from a health and preventative framework.
The issues of gender identity and preference are highly personal and not something you can teach without ending up in a culture war with half the parents.

Why stop at teaching homosexuality in school? Why not teach about pedophilia? How about fetishes? And then we can progress to teaching about God and Jesus.
I sent my children to school to learn the educational basics. Their morals are something that can not be learned at school. That is something which is learned at home and by the examples set by parents.
Morals are like opinions. Everyone has their own.
If someone is gay, I have no problem with it, nor do my children.
If someone is christian, I have no problem with it, nor do my children.
But it is really a personal thing. It's not something I want decided by either a majority or a minority.

Schools do teach homosexuality, but subtly.
For instance, many teachers of elementary school urge students to accept anybody, no matter their color, religion, or how they act. They don't flat out say "And don't be prejudice against the homosexual's," but they do teach equality.
They can't really teach it, because many parents would protest that the school supported it, and could pull their child out of the school.

I disagree all the people who say that morals shouldn't and can't be learned in school. Most children spend about seven hours a day at school for twelve or thirteen years of their life. To say that their learning should be restricted to the "basics" is ridiculous. Religion, sexual orientation, etc. are more a part of adult life than most school subjects are, yet people get angry that students are exposed to them.
I am not saying, however, that schools should show a bias toward any religion or sexual orientation. Even though I have no problem with homosexuality, I do not think that schools should publicly condone or condemn such behavior. However, I do feel that children should be informed of what is out there in the world, because they will be exposed to it sooner or later. To say that a child should only follow the morals of his/her parents is absurd. How are children supposed to become free thinking adults if they accept their parents' beliefs without question. Or do we not want our children to be this way, and have them instead become conservative traditionalists who tend to blindly follow without thinking for themselves.

Loads of parents don't want to face it that there are great people out there that happen to be gay, so they don't think that they should have their kids be any more open minded then they are. Children would be so much better if they did teach it in school. It's just like not teaching about birth control. It's all very aggravating!

Um, we can...I had 2 days of sex education (not really anything I didn't know) in which we were taught about that. I don't know why you're not.
One point I heard was that until a few eyars ago we weren't allowed to say that Gay or Lesbian amrriages were real; they had to be called 'pretend'. Which is really stupid.
It probably is because most schools in England/America are christian, and christianity is very anti-gay/lesbian.

I think they should start teaching about homosexuality in sex education classes as well as sex abuse and how to be aware of pedophiles. I think awareness is the key to a good education.

It is a topic that is based on what a FAMILY or parents should address.
Schools are for educating children in school subjects like math and reading.
Schools should not address personal sexual preferences.

We can teach them to be tolerant. That's all parents will "allow" - and some don't even like THAT concept! Too much religion and prejudice in the world - I hate ignorant people!!!

We are just some back-water people, us civilized americans.
Gee, we may even be human.
Sick, but change takes a long time.
Don't worry. If blacks and women have gone through this and made moderate progress, so will those who happen to have been born (probably born) homosexuals.
Hang in there.
