The McDonald's I went to as a kid had an Apple Pie Tree kinds area in the indoor dining area. It was a big floor to ceiling plastic tree with plastic McDonald's Apple Pie's "growing" from it. The roots formed seats -- and there were small childrens tree tables in this area with a Ronald statue sitting on a bench. It was basically the "old style" play area I guess.

Nope. Not at MY McDonald's. Ours has a huge maze of tubes, windows, and nets. LOTS and LOTS of foam, also.
