Yes,
There is a course you must take and pass before eligible to take your state exam. There must be a background check that you must have as well before you can take the test. After you receive your license, you must work with a Broker before you are activated and able to sell. I think this is enough info, if you want more email me, I am a Realtor

You should finish Real Estate (one or two weeks) classes, get the license and start working. In classes they will offering some real estate book (rules and regulations, also difference between property values). Buy this book around $50-100 cost.
If you located in NY as same as me I can give you some phone numbers because I am going on next week in Real Estate classes too, so information is fresh.

Had a friend knock out the classes here in Texas in 30 days. Tested the following week. He was licensed within 60 days of deciding to start.

You need to get your R.E. principles couse out of the way. With that certificate of completion,you can then apply for the R.E. exam with the DRE(www.dre.com) then you pass the test and become an agent. Get hired with an office and the sales part depends on you. the work you put into it will come back in sales. Good Luck to you.
Call your local R.E. office to see if they offer classes.
