They had their bikes in the front yard by the road and they came in the house. The garbagemen came by and thought we were throwing them out. Is there any chance I can get them back?

Either

a) These are really old bikes and your kids need a new one anyway.

b) Your kids are really tough on bikes and that usually means they're doing things like sliding under cars (usually parked, or at least going slow), jumping hills, ramps, or canyons. They'll be safer without bikes.

c) Your garbage company hires blind people.

If you want them back, you'll probably have to call them and see if you can browse the landfill. In any event, at least buy them helmets and other padding.
