On Saturday of last week, I had just restarted my computer. Upon turning it back on, my mouse wasn't moved. It was 15 hours and several system resotres/uninstallations/etc. later before I found an old mouse (I had tried several and none worked) that plugged into the mouse port in the back of my computer. The next day, upon trying to save something to my flash drive, it wouldn't connect. Fearing the worst, I tried to print something and play a CD with my external USB CD Burner. My fears were confirmed, none of my USB ports were working. I have no idea how to fix this, and my Google search for results only brung me to uninstall and reinstall the USB drives via the Device Manager, which didn't help. This wouldn't be that big a problem if my computer could burn CDs or anything other than a Floppy disk, since I'm getting a new computer in the mail today or tomorrow, save the face I have several hundred files that I need to transfer from here to there. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Reinstall your USB port drivers...
but if you really need a quick fix, go grab a new PCI card with USB 2.0 to quickly transfer your files to your new computer...

It shouldn't really cost you over $25.

If you have to devious, try returning the PCI card and say that it doesn't work after you're done transfering your files...
Normally, I wouldn't recommend shortchanging the store like that, but then again, why would you buy a new card for a computer you're never going to use again?

I agree with Treebear & MjLee, but here's a link to a 5 Port (4 External 1 Internal) USB 2.0 port card for your PCI slot for only $6.25

I've installed many of these with no problems

If your computer has an AMD CPU, and Viatech USB Host Controllers; changing the USB Host Controller drivers to standard or generic drivers, may work. Sometimes, putting a line in config.sys, helps. ie. "lastdrive=m"

go into device manager and delete the usb ROOT hubs, then have the computer do a scan for new hardware, they will pop back up and reload their drivers, this is usally a good fix.

open the device manager. click the usb and select hardware. right click on it and then properties..... if you see that your device is disabled, change it to enabled....
see help and support center at your computer.
