In my new house, some dillweed spilled paint on the hardwood under a built-in cabinet. I'd like to clean it up but don't know the best way besides chipping it up.

Anyone know a solvent that will make the paint easier to remove but not destroy the floor?

The solvent for latex paint is rubbing alcohol - and elbow grease. Best to peal or chip it up carefully to avoid further damage to the hardwood finish.

We just bought a house about 6 months ago and had a similar problem. The paint wasn't pooled but there was a lot of paint on the hardwood floors. I just went around with a rag and a can of Oops. Get the liquid kind and pour it on. Let it sit for a few minutes and then use good old fashioned elbow grease.

Finger nail polish remover it may take up some of the finish so be careful and if it does, use clear fingernail polish to repair. If you know it's latex, rubbing alcohol will take it up also without hurting the floor finish
PS. I use a product called Goof Off which has acetone solvent the same as polish remover but it is stronger

Adrienne, regrettably there is not any ordinary "restore" for it. each and all the hassle could have been stored had they used a drop fabric or been extra careful. i does no longer advise utilising a warmth gun. on a similar time because it could make it ordinary to get rid of the paint, it particularly is going to additionally get rid of the floor end to boot. Harsh solvents may additionally influence the floor end too. i'm hesitant to point utilising acetone considering the fact it particularly is a certainty it particularly is going to influence the floor's coating whether it softens maximum varieties of paints. you're out of success for a standard restore. i think of I observed somebody say a putty knife and endurance.... I lean that course yet something you are trying is going to electrify the end.

if it's latex, it should peel right off and the remnants you can scrape with your fingernail. if it's oil based, use mineral spirits but be careful. keep some soap and water nearby so that you can wipe the chemicals up.
