Let your employer know asap. It is not mandatory to give notice it is just polite.

Two weeks is adequate. If you leave for a good reason a decent employer should be happy with any notice.

If you can, explain to your employer why you can't give adequate notice. If you can't explain, tell your employer as soon as possible you are leaving. Also, ask for a letter of reference. Good luck!

Unless it's in a contract, two weeks notice is the standard amount of time you need to give. Maybe you can offer to work weekends or part time after two weeks, if you feel it's absolutely necessary to give one months notice.

But two weeks is standard.
