To me, menstrual cramps always felt a lot like stomach cramps (when you need to poo really really bad)...
I haven't been in labor yet though so I'm not sure about contractions!

It starts off as your stomach gets real tight (like a cramp) and then it eases up. But as you go along, then comes the pain. It is a pain like I have never felt before. I had 13 hours of natural child birth, it hurts but it nothing that you can not handle.

Mine felt nothing like menstral cramps. Contractions feel like a dull ache that comes and goes. It is a pain similar to the feeling you get if you go to the dentist and hold your mouth open wide for a long time. I have had four kids.

They say cramps are similar because thats all they can think of. Contractions hurt. it is not a pain that goes away, feels more intense and then less intense. it is your body streching out so the baby can pass...

Contractions are very painful cramps, whether you get cramps during your period or not, doesn't matter, contractions are so different compared to period cramps. They are painful, very painful. But the outcome is well worth it.

You'll know what it feels like when it happens. I never had cramps either. But, my contractions woke me up at 1:30am.

they feel like gas pains, only really bad ones.
Imagine the worst case of the runs that you have ever had, and the cramps that come with it. That's how I felt.

Your stomach just kind of clenches up. It's hard to describe, really. And contrary to popular belief, it's hard to recognize, especially early on and especially if it's your first. It just starts as a subtle clenching, like your stomach is squeezing the baby.
