we call that kind of belief an "Old wives tale" Not true but repeated by people who are against birth control or those g'ma's who want a large brood of g'babies. No birth control (the temporary form other than tube tying etc)"causes you to be infertile"
The website below has some reliable medical info stating you may have to wait 12-18 weeks after the last shot to get pregnant. That sounds reasonable yu can plan and get ready in that time-no?
Possibly someone used birth control and during those years may have developed some infections or dieseases(ie endometriosis)that caused infertiltiy or a woman who was destined genetically to start menopause early who stops birth control and expects to be come pregnant may not because she has started to enter that phase of her life for whatever reason. It is best not to wait until your mid to late thirties or later to try to have kids in case of problems but people do that anyway and then discover some issues. If possible if you want a certain number of kids minimum, have them in your twenties or at least by 30 or so to avoid surprises.Otherwise just take your chances.
Try to see a healthcare provider to get some solid info, you can read a lot of the internet but it's not always accurate. There is alternative medicine if you wish to go that route-it takes dedication and can be a real hassle- remember..the old joke.."what do you call a person who practices natural birth control?" answer: Pregnant!

some of the women against Depo-Provera are being a little unfair. This woman was on Depo from June 1994-June 1996. She went off the shot and got pregnant.

another woman was on DP for 5 months and found out that she was pregnant. It shows that even with a 99.9% accuracy, it is not fool proof!

They say in the info packet that Depo reduces your chance of conception to either 0.3% or 0.03% - I forget - either way that is a low number. HOWEVER, I have 10 total girlfriends and two out of those ten have gotten pregnant WHILE on Depo. I think, based on that fact, that their statistics are very skewed. It's also dangerous, because conceiving while on Depo can increase the child's chances of having down's syndrom. Neither of my friends kids ended up with down's, but I'd still be VERY very wary of this drug. A third friend said that getting off it was HELL - that she had four months of a solid period, without stopping. It made her very emotional and she was having bad cramping pain, even though she never had it before. Those are my experiences with friends on Depo!

It is always possible with any birth control method to become sterile afterward, that being said, there is no more chance of that happening with depo than any other. It is more likely, (again with any birth control) that you will have difficulty conceiving for a short period of time, but not be sterile. However, it all depends on each individual. If you are a particularly fertile woman, I wouldn't worry about it. Both my sister and I conceived, the month after we were off of the depo. good luck

No its not true , the risk comes with all types of birth control. My 30 year old sister got pregnant 3 times on Depo , She now has 7 kids due to that . =)

A Depo shot is merely a birth control and like any other birth control option, once you stop it, within a few months your system will become clean and you may become pregnant, provided everything else is normal. If you are very afraid of putting drugs into your body, try a condom or the natural method.

No, absolutely not. It is just effective while you are getting the shot on a schedule but after you stop getting it you can get pregnant just fine.
