Whether or not Intel or AMD is better is a crappy question. The quality of the processors fluctuates. In the beginning Intel was the undisputed master. Then AMD came out with the first 1Ghz and sent Intel running. Pentium dominated, then the AMD Athlon. Nowadays, the Core 2 Duo is the best processor line out there (If you get a higher end one). But next year... who knows.

If you asked me that question more than 6 months ago, I would say AMD hands down.
Recently, Intel released the Core 2 Duo processor that beats AMD in almost all benchmarks.
These processors are not that expensive either. So I would have to say go with the Core 2 Duo.
I am sure AMD will rebound with a better processor series, but that will not be for a bit.

Go with what you like best,AMD vs Intel is an endless debate. There both great processors and as far as benchmarks and all that other talk they make very little difference in a personal PC only an expert would know the difference. There are so many other factors that determine the speed of your personal PC it would be useless listing them.

right now Intel is on top with the core 2 duo. The quads are also available but rather pricey right now. Go for the Core 2 duo E6600 for the processor.
