The above answers are all correct, however its also down to genetics and so if its a family trait then there is little you can do about it, the teabags should be cold for about 10mins and whenever you feel the need, I usually use them when i have a bath so once a day. If you go the cosmetic route, don't get a really light concealer as it shows it up more, go for one slightly lighter than your own colouring.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

Try wrapping a raw slice of potato in a paper towel and use it as a compress under your eyes for about 15 minutes.

Raw potato has enzymes which helps to lighten the dark areas under your eyes.

Forget the tea bags - they have no ingredients which will help to lighten dark circles under the eyes - but may help with baggy or tired eyes.

Skip the tea bags, it's a quick fix for puffy eyes, not dark circles. Go to www.murad.com and order the eye brightener regime, call their customer service rep and get info or find a salon near you who carries murad stuff. It worked for me in about 2 weeks. Check with your dermatologist and make sure you remove ALLLLLL eye makeup at night, otherwise it can seep into the thin skin around your eyes and make it look dark. Good luck.

Tea Bags only work on puffiness.

I have had them all my life, no matter how much sleep I get. I asked my dermatologist when there was an ad touting a new product and he said there really isn't anything that works for that.

Teabags are for puffiness, as someone else said.
