The exception for me is eggs, I think I would throw up if I had to eat eggs that are a month old. I think the "best before" date on eggs is the date when it's no longer safe to crack them open.

The way I look at it is "the best before date" should be a "best if sold before" date. Things are good for at least a week after that date, even eggs and milk.

I have eaten things that were way passed the best before date. I try to eat everything in a more timely manner now, though. I had food poisoning 2 times. =)

yeah it all depends on what it is, if it is some type of milk product, no. Sodas probably yes. If it is past the due date it doesnt mean it's bad it just mean it's not as fresh as would be if ate after "best date".

yes, i use common sense and my other senses: smell, taste, sight to judge the freshness.
The one thing I won't eat is bread past the due date. Once iwas making rye toast and I thought there wasn't any sign of mold so i toasted it i think the heat caused the mold to surface and i noticed it after taking a few bites. now i won't eat bread past a few days of purchasing it.

Gross...no...I am very paranoid of food in my own fridge. I won't even drink the milk if its like 3 days old ...even if its still good..I keep having imagines that there are sea monkeys floating around in it..I soooooo have food issues.

It depends on what the food item is. But I live by the policy: if it still smells good, then it's good.
