A relatively newer book is The Hero's Walk. It's a great story, and tells a very familiar family tale. Written by Anita Rau Badam.

Think Little Miss Sunshine, but in book form.

I'm also a fan of Survivor, by Chuck Palahniuk. It's a very Fight Club esque novel.

My best recommendation is not a novel, but it's called The Parrots Lament. It's about animal understanding and perhaps even consciousness. Very thought provoking.

Enjoy!

I am almost done reading The Assassin by Rye James. It's a new novel that just came out recently. It's very good so far. It's a Western which I don't normally read, but I'm glad I did..plus some of the proceeds benefits St. Judes Childrens Hospital. I'd recommend it.

Fantasy style of books...I'll suggest anything by R.A. Salvatore, Margret Weis/Tracy Hickman (write together A LOT) Andre Norton, Robert Jordan, Richard A. Knaak. These are by far my favorite authors in fantasy novels...

Specific books:

Icewind Dale Trilogy (beginning of my favorite book character Drizzt Do'Urden)
Wheel of Time set (very long set, i believe 11 or 12 books long now)
War of the Lance Trilogy

those are just a few by some of the authors i listed above.

My mom has me reading a new James Patterson series that is pretty good. The first book is called "First to Die" and the second book is called "Second Chance."

They aren't new books, but one of my favorite authors is Maeve Binchy. She wrote "Circle of Friends," "The Glass Lake," and many other amazing novels.

Another great novalist is Barbara Kingsolver.

Thomas Pynchon's "Against the Day" (1000+ pages) or Will Self's "The Book of Dave" (many years in the future Dave's diary becomes the future bible!) Two of my favorite writers.

One of Self's earlier books is called "My Idea of Fun". Kinda like Fight Club, but way more twisted.
