Kids who do a business intern in high school? I want to do one in 12th grade, but i don't know if i should because it is a double period and it might make me skip an acedemic class that i don't nessesarily HAVE to take, but my sister who was accepted to Cornell and is now waiting for the other colleges to reply to her said that i should keep taking spanish history and math and maybe a science all 4 years, and i want to take her advise. (There are 7 periods in a day.)

I'd say do the academics. Can you maybe work in the summer in an internship or a job? Then you'd have both options.

I might be underestimating your internship possibility, but it is hard to imagine they'd have a particularly challenging setup with much individual responsibility for a high school intern. Not that you wouldn't still learn something from being in a professional environment, but I would listen to your sister.

Strong achievements in advanced high school courses are the best preparation for studying and succeeding at college. You have all the rest of your life to be working. Your years as a student are quite limited so explore and wrestle the most out of them. You won't regret it.

Besides, in some states (New York is one of them) if you take enough foreign language in high school and do well on the regents exam, you can be waived out of all or part of the college foreign language requirements.

That gives you flexibility. You can:
-start at a more advanced level in your chosen language
-avoid taking additional language if you don't enjoy it
-take a completely different language just because you want to for your own growth.

I think anything that you can add to your application can enhance it and give you an edge over other applicants. PLUS, if you ever want to do an internship during your college experience, you will always have that high school internship position that you held that will be regarded as "previous experience." You might get the job over someone else, who has little or no experience.

I say go for it! Good luck!
