I think the rules it self would be fine and most of the times the refs catch it. The bigger rule that is a problem is pass interference. The refs dont always call it when recievers interfere with the DB and sometimes whats interference one week isnt the next week.

Much to strict. I can understand them wanting and needing to do away with the late and excessive hits on the QBs but during the course of the year you see so much incidental contact being called as roughing that it is laughable. I saw several accidental brushes (no grabbing involved) of QB face masks that were flagged, legal hits that were called as late hits because a defender could not stop in mid air and change his direction, minor pushes called as roughing. NFL refs, protect the QBs, call the blatant stuff but use some common sense.

The NFL has watered down the game not to protect the QB's but to appease and mollify the press. Nothing good comes from trying appease those who have no contributions to make.
Football is a gladiator sport, so players are gonna get hurt, it's part of the game but press inspired changes have only made the game a woosie sport. At this rate qb's will be wearing tutus with flags on their butts and be untouchable.

QBs should be protected to a point, but the NFL goes a little crazy. Helmet hits shouldn't be allowed, but if blocks below the knees can be allowed, and anyone else can be hit below the knees, why cant the QB? I don't want to see people get hurt, but I don't think it should be legal to hit DBs, LBs, and DLs low like that. Like Jack Lambert said "The league should just put dresses on all QBs"

I understand they dont want helmet to helmet hits on QBs (or anyone) but the rule in the way they enforce it now is ridiculous. It makes defenders fearful of sacking the QB (ask Mathias Kiwanuka of the Giants). ONLY helmet to helmet hits and extremely late hits (3 seconds or more AFTER the QB has released the ball) should be flagged for 15.

I agree with the guidelines. What is needed now is for the officials to enforce the rules equally.

this ain't a wussy game like golf.
just one of many things the nfl needs to change. the no celebration thing is G-A-Y and stuff like fining plummer for honoring pat tillman by having a small sticker on w/his number on the helmet. G-A-Y
