The un-constitutional and frankly un-patriotic "Patriot Act" has been abused by the FBI against average American citizens since it was "passed" by Congress.

So are you surprised?

Do you really think the government is you friend and protector?

It's on the front page of every news outlet today...even the American ones.

No....I'm not surprised at all. I do not think the government is a friend or protector of our citizens. Anyone that understands what our rights were knew this would happen. But there's always those idiots that can't wait to give it all away thinking it's for our own good.........are you any safer now than you were before? I know I'm not. Border wide open. Known radical groups ready to take over the country. Giving credit cards to illegals............what a joke.

Contrary to some people's beliefs, the Patriot Act has never been needed to listen in to people's phone calls. There was a law on the books that let law enforcement tap into phone conversations and records without a warrant before. Only exception is there needed to be probable cause, and then law enforcement had to go to court at a later date.

Many people are ignorant of FISA. Law enforcement always had enough power to stop terrorists in the USA. Patriot Act was nothing more than a power grab.

one of the key issues of the patriot act is the warrant-less wiretapping. prior to the act they could tap a line and had up to 3 days to get a warrant. But they needed to be able to "react quickly" to a threat. 3 DAYS!?!? how slow are they? If having 72 hours between tapping a line and getting the warrant is handicapping their ability to react quickly then I doubt if they could find ice in the arctic. The patriot act is closer to the Gestapo's operating charter than the constitution. As far as abuse of it goes, whenever you hand over power to a person, group or organization it's not a matter of "if they will" use that power to the maximum limit possible but rather "when will they".

WHAT!?!?!! You have no idea what is against the law and what is not. They need the Patriot Act to be able to listen in to terrorist conversations and don't have the time it takes to get a warrant. Plus because the terrorists talk to other terrorists, usually out of the country, it is legal for the government to listen to your phone call. You have no idea what you are talking about and you have no idea how much I am holding back. Of course I don't expect you to ever have the intelligence to fully understand the importance of the Patriot Act and how constitutional it is. So I will take solace that no one of you ilk will ever be able to reach the heights of the political ladder.

Yes it has been abused, Bush changed all that to work after it was passed by Congress, I'm not one bit surprised. I think the government is neither a friend or protector. Anytime they can come in your home with or without you being there just open the door and come in without saying or letting you know they are coming and pick up what they want and walk out with it. Read your e-mail. listen to you phone calls, check checking and saving accounts without permission from you. Just do what they please just like Dictators. There isn't one thing you have anymore that is private. No, they aren't my friend or protector. WE have lost our Democracy, why try to convert Iraq we don't have any..

And this comes from the internet no doubt and if its on the internet it must be true

Why do liberals bash the gvt in terms of law enforcement and national security. They dont trust them to protect their lives or their security, but then they are willing to turn over their health care, their money, and their jobs over to that same gvt. I will never understand that logic.

Whine whine whine about the patriot act. Funny nobody cared when pretty much the same sort of laws were passed against RICO violators and organized crime. I guess those people care about catching the mafia more then they care about catching terrorists.

i attempted to document a lawsuit against a white collar criminal affiliated with Supplemental Warfunding back in '06. From what i will tell, at that element, basically a terrorist could have a verichip implanted w/o consent or awareness. i assume my attempting to gather on achieved artwork made me a terrorist-AND IT did not ensue under THE shape!
