Somehow my hospital screwed everything up and I didn't get into the class I thought I was going to be in. Now it is too late, since I am due in 4weeks and I am slightly worried and angry about not being able to attend them.

check around and see if you can find a one day class. my hubby and i have very conflicting schedules and we ended up having to take a one day Saturday class. it helped. the information was good. call around to the birthing center in your area. the one we took was through a place that just helps out pregnant people in need.

Honey, I didn't go to any classes, and I gave birth with no problems. Just remember, your body is going to do what a woman's body is designed to do, and your body will take over- you will have to just remember to breathe. That's it!

Remember that women have given birth for centuries before these classes were invented, and they turned out fine...as evidenced by the fact that the human race is still here.

If you are uncertain about what to do on the day, the person delivering your baby will guide you anyway.

Classes, in my opinion, aren't important. I survived without them, and my daughter had a safe birth...apart from her head being too big and suddenly having her heart rate drop so I had an episiotomy- but that was the only problem :)

Breathe deeply, relax.

Know that the pain isn't constant- you have pain free moments, even minutes- between contractions...

Do what your body tells you to do.

There you go, all you need to know about giving birth!
Good luck!

i didn't take any classes and got 2 healthy boys, my advise to you is go to the hospital as late as you think possible, and walk while in labor... the hospital usually tries to put you into bed and keep you there, fact is the more you move the easier your labor will be. Also, eat!!! before you go to the hospital, they won't let you until after the baby is born!
There is no neat to panic, like you see in the movies, it'll take a while until the baby arrives... i personally recommend not to take the epidural, as it CAN lead to complications and it isn't that hard without. I got my first one with and had lots of complications and went natural with my second one, no rips, no complications,... and the pain lessens significantly once you start pushing. good luck

I took the classes with my oldest daughter. I enjoyed the classes they were quite informative, but once i was in labor, i didnt want anyone to be telling me how to breathe...i still was breathing but not the way they showed us...its ok, there is still the same result in the end whether or not you get to take the classes. Youll have a wonderful new life and congratulations...theres nothing like being a mommy..God Bless

i did take prenatal classes and i found them to be VERY beneficial. They taught me about labor and what to expect. I am no longer nervous about labor because I know what to expect and the things that can go wrong. I would call the hospital and tell them that you are extremely interested in attending and if you missed a class, ask them to supply you with the paperwork that they handed out. Stress that you really want to be in the class. Also, one thing that they told me was to do your paperwork at the hospital about 3-4 weeks before your due date. The paperwork takes about a half hour to do. They tell you to go early because it is going to be really hard to concentrate on filling it out when you are in labor. Hope this helps and I dont see why your hospital wouldnt let you attend them even if you missed a class. This is YOUR pregnancy and YOUR baby and you want to know what to expect. They cannot deny you the education you want. If they do, theres something wrong. Good Luck!

I never took them and I had the opportunity. I talked a lot to my doctor during appointments and read A LOT! The nurses and doctors on staff -- especially the nurses -- are there for you. They will lead you and direct you through the whole process. They should even ask if you did take any classes or if you have a birth plan. Be honest and open about your concerns and they will help you a lot.

Women have been successfully giving birth for centuries without birthing classes and lamaze...your body is an amazing thing...it will know how to deliver the baby!

Of course, childbirth classes can be great...for me personally I'm not planning on taking any and I'm ok with that.

If you don't get into one you'll be fine and the doctors and nurses will be there to help!

I wouldn't be too worried. They really didn't help me at all. They teach you breathing techniques and massage techniques that your partner can do on you to relax. And they make you bring in something that you will concentrate on while in labor. Let me tell you I used none of it. Everything went out the window when I went into labor.
If you’re really worried try and rent a video. That might help. But no I don’t think you’re missing much, you’ll do fine the nurses will help you though everything.

I didn't go.
My birth experience went wonderfully! I got the epidural on time and laughed through the rest of the birth. It was great!
I don't really know what a class can teach you since I didn't go, but everyones experience is going to be different in the birthing room and a class can't tell you how it's going to go.

I did not take classes and don't feel like i missed out on anything. I read every book I could get my hands on, and spent a lot of time on pregnancy forums listening to the experiences of others. Nothing about labor surprised me. I felt very comfortable without the childbirth classes.
