alright that pulling sensation are your round ligaments stretching to accomodate your growing uterus. that is completely normal. i know they hurt, but its all part of pregnancy. they will go away soon.

and the smoking thing. i know how you feel. i currently am a smoker and i too feel guilty, but it is so had to quit. the patch and gum and things like that are not safe to use during pregnancy. but heres a little story that may encourage you to quit... i am 37 weeks along and i know that my doctor kept yelling at me to quit the whole time, but i couldnt. at my last visit yesterday he said that the baby stopped growing last week. so my baby is technically 37 weeks, but the size of a 36 week old baby. also my placenta is not functioning properly and has a lot of calcifications on it. the parts that have these calcium deposits are now dead and not supplying my baby with enough nutrients and oxygen. they have to induce me or do a c-section next friday. i knew that i should quit smoking, but now it really hit home as to why. please do not do what i did and listen to your doctor, they tell you for a reason. i too only smoked around 5 a day and caused this damage. i feel horrible because I DID THIS to my son knowing that it could have been avoided. dont do it for your dr or yourself, but for your unborn baby. i wish i would have, but nothing i can do now. my baby has had growth problems the whole time because of my smoking and now has to be delivered early cuz i was too stubborn to quit. the dr has all kinds of info about quitting smoking. also there are quitlines to help you. i hope this helps you.

Good Luck and Congrats on your Little One.

Part 2:
I know how you feel. I am 5 weeks and I am still having the odd smoke. Although I was from a pack a day down to 2 cigarettes. I know thats its not good, and I feel extremely guilty as well. It is so hard when you really enjoy it too.
Mind you I dont smoke when I am out in public and I do it outside when I get home from work.(not that it makes it any better). I think that smoking is worse then the gum or patches. Best of luck to all the pregnant smokers. Hopefully we all get really bad morning sickness and dont want to smoke. And never want to smoke again.
GOOD LUCK!!

well i know nothing about the first question I'm still trying to get pregnant myself but for the smoking... we all know its bad and we all know the risks so I'm not going to go there. however, women smoke packs of cigs a day and have healthy babies and big babies while some women never smoke and have sick babies and tiny babies. honestly despite the studies done i see the end results reflect more on genes then anything. none of my sister in laws smoke or been around those who do yet all 3 of my nieces were under 5lb 4oz and had breathing problems from day one and diagnosed with asthma before a year old. A good friend drank and smoked 3 packs of cigs a day and all 4 of her kids were 8 9 lbs and healthy as can be.

The pulling is round ligament pains and they are just growing pains. As for the smoking thing, you know you need to quit and if you were as heavy a smoker as you say then you are doing it the right way. Your body doesn't need that kind of shock while pregnant. I smoke a little while pregnant and eventually quit entirely. I used bubble bath, a glass of water, a walk around the block, and people telling me about my baby and how much healthier she would be without me smoking (and not the mean way). My baby girl is now two months old and I still have the urge to smoke but I don't because of her and my two year old son ( I did the same thing with him but went right back after he was born) Good luck! I know you can do it!

The pulling feeling is the round ligament stretching. I used to get it whenever I would stand up from a sitting position. It hurt like crazy but only for a minute and then it was gone. Unfortunately you'll probably have it all through pregnancy. And even more unfortunately, I hate to tell you but my daughter is 6 months old and I still get it occasionally. I don't have any advice on the smoking, I've never smoked.

The pulling sensation is definetly normal. Im actually feeling it more now that Im in my second pregnancy than I felt in my first.

As far as the smoking habit... I dont really know. I smoked occasionally before I was pregnant, but it wasn't hard for me to stop at all.... Good luck, and I hope you find a great answer for that one!

Your answer to part 2 is, the baby is getting the nicotine from the cigarettes so why would the gum or patch affect you? There arent as many harsh chemicals in them either.

Yeah, the stretching is normal. You'll start to feel muscle pain in your uterus where the ligaments are stretching. it hurts, but it's normal
