My plug came out the morning I had my first baby, at exactly 40 weeks. I had a c-section planned a week before my due date with my second, and the plug came out right before I went in. With my third, I had a planned c-section the week before my due date, and no plug.

My sister's plug came out a few days before she had her first, who was three and half weeks early. With her second, her plug came out about a week before they ended up breaking her water to try to get her to go into labor (her blood pressure was high).

Your situation sounds completely normal. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to when the plug comes out!

And, congratulations!

Not everyone loses the plug before active labor. Sometimes you can lose it and not realize it, but it comes out gradually and looks like regular mucus. I was induced at 39 weeks, and never noticed anything that would qualify as a lost plug.

I never lost my mucous plug with either of my pregnancies (at least not that I know of). I went 39 wks with my first and 38 wks with my second.

I don't think it comes out until labour begins. Your waters should break not long after the plug comes out. It should happen soon though. If you are worried speak to your midwife. Good luck!

I've heard sometimes it doesn't come out until you go into labor. Mine came out months before I had the baby with both pregnancies.

sometimes it comes out as a whole plug and sometimes it comes out in pieces. it isn't rare that you wont even notice it. i never seen mine with my first child. i watch a lot of TV shows about babies and i have seen doctors say you can even loose it when your 5-6 months, or sooner or later. don't worry if you don't ever see it, more then likely it came out already and haven't noticed!

mine didn't until I was 8 cm dilated, but my friend's did right at the start of labour, and my other friend's a day before. It's different for everyone. :) Good luck with the labour!
