Be confident in your dance routine, even if you don't completely know it, act like it. If you mess up, keep going as if nothing happened, because they will not want a dancer her can't stand to make a mistake. Smile and be energetic. Look like your having a good time. When they are showing you steps, pay attention! Ask questions if you aren't sure and volunteer if they need one. Make eye contact with the judges/coaches. You don't want to show off, but make sure you are doing your best and trying your hardest. If you end up doing a big group routine or warm up, try to be in the front, definitely don't be in the back if possible.

For my dance team, the coaches did a group evaluation as well as individual. For the group, we were split up into groups of 4 and given a routine to memerize. For the individual, we had to make up an original 1 minute routine. There was also a skills test (though it didn't count as much), and things like splits, kicks (individually and in a line), turns, etc were tested. Every dance team has different things for the try-outs, but hopefully this will help you get the idea of what may be expected. Good luck.

heyy!

ok so im not sure what type of dance this team does but stop worrying so much. Its not that hard.

Normally all they'll do is ask you how long you have been dancing for. Make sure you answer loud, clear and very sure. Dont think about it or sound unsure.

Next they'll teach you a routine and just try your best!

Normally they wont be too hard. They first just want to cut out the really bad people that cant do a simple routine and then make a bit of a harder one.

Next you'll do some accross the floor stuff. Then your done!

But the most important thing is to try your best and have fun!

Good Luck!

This is what I did and it worked!

1.Work on your technique...clean turns (probably doubles), leaps, splits, high kicks, etc.

2. Good posture/poise, always smile and don't look frustraited or discouraged if you have trouble with something.

3. If you get corrected on something than correct it right away and try it again.

4. Wear ribbons that are your school's colors in your hair and bright colors (unless you are required to wear certain colors).

5. Go light on the makeup, just put on enough to bring out your features.

6. Be on time, if not early and make sure you have all of your forms/permission slips with you.

7. Don't be afraid to ask questions because they will probably teach you a dance. It is better to ask than be doing it wrong.

8. Be respectful to the coaches/judges just like you would to any dance teacher at your studio. Listen to what they have to say, dont talk while they are talking...stuff like that.

8. Stretch everyday before tryouts to build up your flexibility unless you are already super flexible (unlike me).

Good luck!

I tried out for drill team. For that, at least, we had to wear a lot of makeup and use red red lipstick. Use a strong, tight as you can go ponytail holder (mine fell out during my dance!). Make a lot of eye contact with the judges and stay with your 8-counts!! If you mess up just keep going, dont give up and dont stop.

Good luck!

They had us dance in small groups, then they some cuts from each small group. Later on after we learned a new song, they made us dance in even smaller groups, and made some more cuts. Its really comfortable, and there is no pressure. All you have to do is focus on what you are doing, and not what is going on around you.
