The sharp pains around your navel are from your abdomen stretching out. Because you are having twins it stretches more than a normal pregnancy would because your body is trying to make space for them to develop comfortably - LOL Notice I said Them, not You :) I experienced this with my first child because she was such a large baby. She was born 10 lbs, 1 oz. and 22.5 inches long.

As for the back pains the same answer applies, your back muscles start to lengthen and stretch, and your spine will soon start to have an "electric" prickle run up and down it. Unfortunately that will come from your back stretching (kind of like traction).

What did I use to get rid of those pains? Heat, moist heat to be exact. One answer says get in the tub and that's correct but you have to control the temp of the water over your belly (it can't be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit - which is easy to do in apartments). On your back you can go a little warmer put a wet washcloth or dish towel over the spot where you will be applying the heat to your back. You can use a heating pad with the massage, or those disposable heat pads, even. Not sure about those for your belly though... You should consult your OB on that.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

I'm 15 weeks and feeling the same things lately. Apparently it's your ligaments stretching (more so in your case!) and nothing to be concerned about. If it's bad enough that you're doubled over in pain then call your dr. immediately. I have really bad back pain and the only thing that has helped is a warm bath or a heating pad has been great. I don't want to take too much tylenol.

Good luck and congrats!!

A warm, not hot! soak helps the back pain. As for the sharp stabbing pain, it could be anything I would ask your doctor.
