It is amazing that while being " equal" to men in the eyes of the law women often end up with the house and the car etc. This is because the male is still " required" to " Take care of" the female after the divorce ( alimony etc.) which striked me as unfair , why should a man have to pay for the privilige of giving a woman a free ride?

Umm, we are now in the 2000s, not the 1960s. Women do not always "get everything" in a divorce. Many divorces end amicably, with each partner getting what they agreed to. If the woman earns more than the husband, there have been many cases of alimony being paid to the husband.
So basically, your whole premise is outdated and sexist.
By the way, what does this question have to do with LGBT issues? Last time I checked, Congress was still backing state-sponsored discrimination and not letting us marry, never mind divorce.

Bitter much? Honestly grow up, your material possessions are nothing more than things. Life is not a contest to see who leaves here having accumulated the most things. Shouldn't you be bemoaning the loss of the woman you wanted to share your whole life with instead of counting through your things and worrying about who is taking away the biggest pile. Divorce can be a painful and difficult time for both parties and admittedly some individuals want to see their spouse suffer by taking as much from them as possible. This simply isn't true. In many states the couple's possessions are split 50/50, regardless of gender. In other states the one who gets custody of the children gets more money, or the one who is at fault (in case of an affair) is penalized. It's generally gender-neutral and the courts try to do what they believe is the best thing for all parties involved.
