The Patriot act is simply another control of the populous. Rights have been taken away. How much more does the Federal government need to have it's sticky fingers in? By the way, wasn't the federal government supposed to be abolished and the power returned to the states? And what is the del with the democrats pushing for the IRS to crack down on tax payers. How about asking all those major corporations to pony up the dough they owe first. I would say the deficit would be significantly reduced. I know that my minor amount of taxes each year doesnt count for sh#@.

Its a communist's dream law. It subverts the already existing FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance ACT) that let law enforcement agents collect information on known terrorists and act when ever there is probable cause that a terrorist attack or action is going to happen.

The Patriot Act does nothing to give federal law enforcement more power to investigate terrorism. It does, as the articles on the major news site have shown today, give federal government more power to snoop in regular peoples lives.

ONCE AGAIN, under FISA agents acting on probable cause could collect information and detain parties without a warrant. Then, they would have to go to a FISA judge and show why they acted.

If the threat against the USA was to happen sometime in the future, then the agents would have to go to a FISA court and get a warrant.

OF THE 20,000 + WARRANT APPLICATIONS, ONLY 4 HAVE BEEN DISAPPROVED.

FISA WAS ALL THEY EVER NEEDED.

PATRIOT ACT IS THE OPPOSITE

It gives law enforcement authoritys expanded power to look through records and such when they are investigating terrorist activities. Some think that it is necessary in the fight to stop future terrorist attacks. Some say that it is not worth it if it means giving up certain freedoms against "unreasonable searches".The act passed and became a temporary law.The debate is over whether to keep it or not.

It gives government agencies more power to gain access to things like email, telephone records, regular mail, internet transmissions, etc...

It's controversial because it bypasses the right to unlawful search and seizure and could be used to improperly monitor civilians that are doing nothing wrong.
