This is a reflection of him (not you) as you are aware. He evidently has issues with having two broken engagements, and doesn't want this one to get away! (I'm wondering how much his behavior contributed to the two other women leaving him though.)
Hon I think you need to explain to him that you need some alone time, too. Each and every one of us do (including him, but he's obviously not aware of it.) Make him aware, through words and actions, that he can trust you, because this is probably what's behind his neediness.
He needs to respect your need for some down time, and you need to tell him this. Go to counseling with him if necessary, but he needs to learn that too much togetherness is hard on a relationship.

Why don't you tell him that you are ok and don't need him to be around you all of the time. Of course you should say it in a more compassionate way. I'm sure that the fact that he has been cheated on before made him think that he did something wrong so now he is trying to be there for you and do whatever he can to make you happy. You should just let him know how you feel and see where it goes.

I think you need to tell him that you only have one child you don't need two. if you care for him just tell him you have other responsibilities and can't be with him all the time he might take this the wrong way or he may not. but if he has been engaged 2xs then his behavior should tell you why those women left him

Needy and insecure is right. This guy needs a job so he can have something else to occupy his time.

You should talk to him about how you feel. Let him know that you appreciate him and not to take it personally but you need to have your own space. If he still doesn't get it then it's time to cut him loose.
