They are practicing for life after med school when they think they deserve sainthood.

I would go for it - we need doctors without the arrogance.

please do not give up on the idea of being a medical student.
let me tell you over half of them do it because daddy or mommy did or they have been pushed well and truly into it. being in medicine is deemed the best of the best so they are already one step up their own back side if they believe that!
My daughter doing her A levels is studing so hard with all the arts she is a great artist but no that is not good enough for those studying maths/biology ect as they think she is on a cop out course well NO she studies every night her art takes her hours and hours to do ect so does her other subjects.
To get to medical school you have to be good but so to if on any other unni course it is just different type of study.
Not all medical students are like this and let me tell you the best doctors are like you my friend brains/arrogence are not the only ingrediance you need care, compasion and a love for your job you will do it dont let them put you off my friend.

Hi Mee, I don't know what University you went to but I went to Dundee, and the medics were the drunkest, noisiest, rabble of people imaginable and just the best fun. The used to drink in the Union and end up all on the floor covered in lager. I think maybe after first year they won't be so arrogant. They are young and of course clever, but they will end up OK. Try another University. And GOOD LUCK don't be put off.

I think it's the same case with any and every proffession. Those already in it or who have completed 5-6 years of ostensibly gruelling study are under the delusion that they have accomplished something and so have the right to treat others with disdain. A case of superiority complex, if you ask me!

In interviews just be aware of above fact, and imagine that the interviewer is a massive turnip... you'll be surprised at how well you can do!

I know. My brother being a 4th year med student, BELIEVE me- I know! I interviewed at med school as well and the interviewer was a TOTAL *** (cardiologist). He actually asked me what I was going to do about having kids (I'm female) and about my family. I'm like...well, I'd have to talk to the husband that I don't have about it. Alot of them are like that...ALOT. To find one that's not is to find one that's like a diamond in the rough. My cousin is a surgeon, but he is the nicest person in the world...how he ever survived the vicious people in medical school...I will never know.

I'm going to go to medical school anyways. Not this year, not next year, but the year when I can learn to put up with that crap. I know how you feel. Really, I do.

Our society puts doctors on a pedestal, when really they should be constantly questioned. I have seen many doctors misdiagnose patients because they think they know what they are doing. When you start your residency you will see that all of those students that thought they knew something will be brought down by the attendees. You learn to become a doctor thru experience, not a book.
Go to medical school, become the student that thinks they know nothing, but wants to learn everything.

They are preparing to be posh up-their-arses knuckleheads later on in life. Only certain types of people can be doctors. 1) Easy going people who love to learn and help and can handle the stress and the pain easily, because they deal with it in a specific, calm way. 2) Greedy, cold-hearted bastards who want to climb up on the society ladder and the money ladder and don't care what happens on the way as long as they can get what they want. They don't even realize they're saving lives.

yes they are- but please dont stop.

I am pregnant with my first child and my doctor is fresh out of medical school (we live in a small town-pop 320 that’s all- so there is only one baby doctor) and I know exactly what your talking about. any time I ask a question she treats me like Im and idiot and I should bow to her power as a doctor. Arrogant is a great word!

But that is why people like you need to go to school. I know it’s hard, but if you make it through that will be one less crapy doctor out there. re think that. (and then come to a small town where you will be the only one and the whole town will be saved!!!...or not...sigh)

i studied in a medical sch but i am not taking medicine.I am a dietetics students. Still, i have a lot of chances to mix with medic students and i think they are not as arrogant as what we thought. maybe because in my college, they have nothing to be proud of because almost everyone studying here stands an equal chance to study medic. It just depends on our interests and i didn't choose medic as i know i can't cope with the overwhelming pressure it brings along.

Isn't the goal of medicine to help people? Do you care how your classmates are? Do you know if that's how all med students are? You say you figured this out during 1 single interview.

You're passing on medicine cuz of something as stupid as this? Maybe you shouldn't do medicine. It takes a lot of dedication. You suffer so eventually you can help people. I'm not quite sure you can hack it. You're going to be competing with a bunch of brilliant people. It takes a lot of self confidence to keep going. When you get out, you're going to be expected to know everything. That's why everyone's killing themselves during med school and of course they're proud of their accomplishments.
