My companion and I have children and often refer to each other as Daddy or Momma. Whe only do this, however, in the presence of the children ... Well, sometimes ... late at night things can get a little steamy and we just blurt our the wrong endearments. Weird? I don't think so.

I live in the south, and here it is sickeningly common! I think it is much better if you ARE a Mama or Daddy....Otherwise, it is just STRANGE!
My Daddy's name is Danny and my mom would alway called him Danny and I wound up calling him "Dandy" LOL

Yes its weird. I've only refered to my husband as daddy around my kids or sarcastically when he's getting to bossy with me.

I call my husband Daddy in front of our 2 year old twins. I tried calling him by his given name but they also want to call him that. He does the same for me. We don't think it is right for children to call their parents by their given names..

It always creeps me out... maybe if they have kids, it's different, but not my style. "Sugar daddy/momma" is a different story, though, if it's a monetary thing.

In the spanish culture you call your significant other that but in spanish, for a woman it would be mama, and for a guy it would be papi.

I don't think so. It sounds affectionate to me. That person might be a momma or pappa.
